Well, at least it's not Electronic Arts...

Clair Obscure : Expedition 33 has certainly set the gaming industry into a panic...a game from a small studio (Sandfall Interactive) with a budget of $20M (?) is crushing it and earning rave reviews..when AAA titles that cost hundreds of millions are getting roasted...

[GROAN] Stop simping for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. This is not the time, or place for it, and overhyping a AA game is honestly just as bad as simping for corpo slop.

Maybe if they get that WB merger goes through, because then they would have a gaming studio...

Good luck on that. Netflix have said WB Games didn't even factor into the price of the bid as they find it to be insignificant enough to say it's worthless. It would be fair to say Netflix is not interested in getting into bigger games for the forseeable future. They did in the past, putting a lot of money into spinning up a new AAA studio, and when they failed at finding instant success, they closed it and any associated studios. I find it more likely that they would divest themselves of WB Games entirely.

"simping"?
simply pointing out the "David and Goliath" symbolism. It's refreshing
We've seen this before,
"The Terminator" was a low budget film that James Cameron directed while living on a friend's couch...who would have thought?

It's not refreshing. We've seen this already back in 2023 with Baldur's Gate 3, a darker and edgier standalone sequel in the Baldur's Gate franchise. Singing the praises of a modestly budgeted game, and painting it as a "major win against AAA gaming" even though everyone and their grandmother knows that AA and independent gaming is carrying the industry, is not unlike a Madden Moron getting giddy at all the ways MUT Mode will fuck them in the ass.

You're not special, your game might be great but it's not special either, cope with this reality.

well then, sorry to trigger you my man
No worries. Fact is, Clair Obscur E33 looks good, but the amount of overhype it's getting really grinds my gears.

I love oldschool FPS games like Doom and Blood, but you don't see me overhyping them as "destroying modern AAA". A lot of gamers accept that older games are better and they naturally attract a following. Same with AA games like Clair Obscur E33. No need to overhype.

to me it's like the music industry,
you have the big name record companies that put out the same thing over and over with a different badge (this is how the industry is modeled).

then you have smaller independent labels that might present a gem of an artist who is outside the box and they are lauded over, doesn't necessarily mean they will sell well, but they make people sit up and take notice
