MLB stadiums

And in other news, the Yankees spent a few hours jackhammering through two feet of concrete at the new Yankee Stadium.

That guy was such a prick. I hope they sue his ass. And I hope David Ortiz *kicks* his ass for dragging his name through the mud like that.

I mean, as much as I love the Yankees, I sure as hell wouldn't do this in reverse (i.e. sneak a Yankees jersey into the concrete of a new Fenway). Only people with shit for brains do that.

Huh? Its not that big of a deal. Of course I see it as a Sox fan, so I think it is kinda funny. But really, there is nothing to it. Just a joke.

I personally think its hilarious. I wouldn't go as far as sticking a $90 jersey in concrete, but I usually try to bring my Cubs and/or Bears attire with me when I visit my family in Milwaukee.

As a non-Yankees and non-Red Sox fan, I think it's hilarious. That anyone even cares that much. What if they hadn't found it, or what it hadn't been true? Or what if someone decided to say they've planted about 20 more of those around the stadium? Are the Yankees really going to spend the time dismantling their new stadium like that? Geez...

I haven't had the chance to get to a game yet this season, but I will be getting to two in the next couple of weeks. I'm headed to PetCo Park week after next, and then to a game at Nationals Stadium in two weeks. I'm curious to see the Nationals new stadium. I always love getting to a new baseball stadium.

As you proved in a thread last year, you're fairly new to the whole Sox/Yankees rivalry. Relax a little, huh?

Ah, but as you recall, that time I was accused of not being into the rivalry enough. Now, apparently, it's exactly the reverse. Guess I can't win, huh? ;)

And I still maintain that y'all would care more about this if it had been your favorite team. (I'm just guessing that none of you are Yankees fans.) I'm sure BoSox fans are loving this whole thing. Just like that time awhile back when a girl named 'Alexa Rodriguez' was attacked by a bird while she was in Fenway Park. Linky

EH, I don't care all that much. Thought it was kinda amusing, but it would have been a lot MORE amusing if the guy had kept his mouth shut longer, until they finished and weren't going to dig it up. Also, maybe he shouldn't have told them WHERE, exactly, he buried it? A lame non-story that it's already gone, and he gave it up so quickly. Just to get him a couple minutes on the news, I guess.

The hawk incident was funnier (except to the girl). Even better when, on Opening Day, it was circling the field...

Well, she got a small scratch out of it. She wasn't hospitalized or anything. I think she may have even resumed a normal life at this point.

As for the jersey thing, yeah - it's funny. It's just silly. It doesn't matter what team you are a fan of, it's silly anyway. As a Sox fan, I can tell you that I would still think that if it was a Yankee jersey buried under Fenway (though there would be plenty of people who would freak out over it).

Please, Ortiz has enough to worry about with that rather craptastic slump of his. Although this could possibly explain it. Sad that a Red Sox fan can't be 100% committed to trying to put a curse on the Yankees. Threefold principle's a bitch, kids.

I don't know which was funnier, the fact that they buried an Ortiz jersey, or the fact that they spent 5 hours at union Sunday rates digging the thing up.

Besides, cursing the Abomination that is the new stadium is the job for a pagan who's aware of the threefold principle and possible repercussions, not an amateur like that Red Sox fan.

And before anyone goes thinking I jumped the fence, I didn't. My natural hatred for the BoSox is still firmly entrenched. I don't think there's anything that'll change that.

^ Doesn't believe they should be tearing down something with so much history, as I recall. Especially when it's just over a matter of a few bucks, more luxury boxes, etc.

Hell, if they can manage to make Fenway usable (and it keeps improving) and it was built in 1912, why can't they find a way to update Yankee Stadium? It just had a major refit 35-40 years ago, no? Wouldn't something like that have worked?

Real answer is that the Mets were getting a new park, and the Yankess have a big ego and couldn't be outdone...

I wouldn't call it ego, just sound business sense. If the Mets get a new park, why shouldn't the Yankees? Fenway doesn't need to be renovated, since there isn't another team just a few miles away that *is* getting its own park. They have no one in the immediate area to compete with.

You can be sure that if the Yankees had been the first ones to hit upon the idea of a new park, the Mets would have followed suit. That's the very nature of competition.

Assuming the Mets did it first, though, I'm not surprised. They have even more reason to build a new park, really, since Shea is a cookie cutter and thus is obviously needing to be replaced.

As for renovations: There's only so much you can do to an old park. Beyond that, it's simply more cost effective to build a new one.

That's easy to say about teams you care nothing about. What if it had been your favorite team?

If it had been my favorite team, this story would have been forgotten in a day. Only with the Yankees and Red Sox does the media magnify every little thing like this.

I think it's pretty funny that they wasted so much time and money digging something out based on a superstition. Something like this has happened before-- a construction worker who was a Pittsburgh fan claimed to have buried a Terrible Towel under the field at the Baltimore Ravens' new stadium. It was a funny story, but I don't think they bothered digging it up, and the Ravens still managed to win the Super Bowl a couple years later.

^ I take it you've never been on an active construction site.

I'm a civil engineer so I spent a bit of time on site for inspections, testing, etc. Contractors throw any old shit into an excavation prior to backfilling or pouring concrete.

The foundation of your house probably has several styrofoam coffee cups in it.

No, I haven't been on an active construction site before, but I don't understand what your response has to do with my post. It seems like you're actually agreeing with me.

Wait, you don't like Boston or the Red Sox? With all the talking down to us chowdaheads, I hadn't noticed.

Big Papi will be fine. I'm not going to give him crap for getting off to a slow start.

Ding! Ding! Ding!

Exactly. If I found out tomorrow that a Dodger fan had put a Dodger jersey under PetCo Park, I'd laugh and move on. No one would care.
