Jayru (JSnaith's) 3D Trek

I use a textured box which is self-lit, the textures are derived from a set I build and then render up to get the texture maps. Some rooms require more "depth," so I add furniture to them and the like, and different eras of Trek have different sets.

There is a difference between FREEDOM and ANARCHY.

In a Free society, your rights end where they actually harm another. In Anarchy no one can control your actions.

In a Free society there are laws telling exactly where government power/policies stop, in other words "break it up you two".

In Anarchy, there is no government at all, thus it is totally an unstable form of government. Which gives rise to some very bad things, like the Blitz. If what became the Allies of WW II, hadn't been so afraid of war, then the rise of the National Socialist, Laborers and Workers Party of Germany 1920-1945 time frame, would never have happened.

Very sad, especially for the 13.2 million people killed...six million of those, Jews. Dictators arise when no one properly confronts them.

Where do you think that Klingons came from? Or Ming the Merciless? Or Darth Vader? By being non confrontational at the wrong time.

The subtext here, is to never fear war, but hate its necessity with GREAT PASSION. But do the JOB required, as you find it.

Sub-sub text.

The British Royal Navy is one of the premier Navy's anywhere/anywhere. But it was full of traditions. When, as what became WW II started to ramp up, they drew upon the British Merchant Fleet for additional personnel. As it ramped, even further...Wartime only personnel - people whom had no real idea of the traditions of either Fleet. They wanted to go home, and knew that the only way home was to win!

Just trying to compress Man's entire history into one shot.

Pretty impossible, I know.

I am sorry, but what does this have to do with the CGI art being posted in this topic?

I may have started this with the comments about Imgur and why they withdrew their service from the UK. But yes, I would rather not dwell on it. It comes down to this: I live in the UK, I know my rights, and I am still free. The Cyber Laws are meant to protect children, and Imgur don't want to abide by them. Full stop.

No updates at the moment, as I am relegated to the laptop. The Big Rig is currently without a keyboard until some point this morning (thanks, cat - long story short, she broke it). And then I shall get back to the coal face. No, she isn't a fat cat, lol, she's 16 years old and thinks she's still a kitten. She tried to get on my desk and didn't leap right, and well, let's just say it was a choice between Big Rig or the keyboard; I couldn't grab both.

Where I am on things: still plugging away on the TOS side of things, the shuttle has been revamped (again) - blue impulse vents and some other tweaks, and I have created a new landing pad system that does away with the "third leg" to preserve the aft compartment.

More on this, soon.

a streamer i watch has a 19 year old tabby named Gabby and she has been showing her age recently, moving stiffly and stuff, and she had to get cat stairs so Gabby could get onto the desk and settle in her usual position. and then of course the other cats sit on them and block gabby when she wants to leave

blue impulse vents? heresy! to the spice mines with you! wait, that's the wrong franchise...

Mak is doing ok, she's still quite spritely for a 16-year-old, but has her moments. She's had a few lady cat problems, but aside from that is quite healthy. She's doing better than me, lol

Updates on the shuttle, which has been locked as "I'm happy and can move on" -

More later (I think I have a hanger bay to build).

Well... That's interesting. It is not possible to fit a hangar bay as seen on screen on the Constitution Class (TOS). It simply isn't big enough. I have scaled the ship up to 125% and I'll see how it goes, but it's going to be tight still. I need to check a few things, but... Yeah, surprised by that.

More later.

i guess he is of the "production compromises overrule design intention" school

i ought to finish the shuttlebay on my constitution model, but that whole thing is more a collection of ideas i like from different interpretations, so not really trying to adhere to much of anything

People have been fairly sure for decades that you can't fit the shuttle into the hangar at the original scale, or any of the sets inside the ship for that matter. 3D modeling has just made it much more obvious. The Excelsior has the same problem.

I scaled my Constitution Class (TOS) to 361.25meters, and that seems to fix the problem. I've scaled the other TOS ships accordingly so they all sit right. I may rework my TMP ships as a result. Anyhow,

Fits two shuttles, which seems right. Technically, I could get some in the frame, but I figure I need space for everything else. I'm still working on this, so I know details are missing.

Comments welcome, more later.

and yet people have also made it work at the originally designed scales, in 3d modeling

I know, but you compromise the size of the bay and the size of the shuttle. I build rationalised designs - that is, models that, in theory, you can fit what needs to be inside, inside the ship. I can't shrink the shuttle because people won't be able to get inside it. So, I either compromise on the bay and have a single shuttle, or do the unthinkable and say Jeffries was wrong and the ship should be 361.25 meters long so I can have a proper bay and a couple of shuttles. I'm not increasing the deck count, as the decks actually need to be taller to fit people in. So it's a win-win.

The doors are supposed to be sixty feet wide, and thirty feet tall. So you could get an Aurora class space cruiser in there, not much else. Definitely not much else. Meaning that if things had properly, the crew would have stored the SS Aurora in the hangar.

Probably scrapping the ceiling...

How else would you get her back to the Starbase? Fuel her? Exactly how much fuel does she take, and exactly how much Shuttlecraft fuel does the Enterprise carry, if they both use ion impulse drives...

Abandon her? No way, even with insurance.

Updates:

it's just interesting to see how people come up with different solutions
Indeed.
