Spoilers Game Of Thrones’ Spinoff ‘House Of The Dragons’ ordered to series

The Chronological Order for the Westerosi TV Universe is House of the Dragon > A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms > Game of Thrones, but until HotD ends, we won't be able to definitively say how much time there is between the two shows (HotD and AKotSK) due to the fact that HotD has pretty significantly changed the timeline of the Dance of the Dragons as laid out in GRRM's texts.

Season 3 has yet to air but the show has been renewed for a 4th season

You do realize not everyone pays attention all of the news all the time, right? This is newsworthy for people who didn't already know this news. Like me.

I was expressing genuine confusion because I remember having had discussions previously about the show being confirmed to last four seasons.

I wasn't trying to be offensive or dismissive.

I was also confused by this. Didn't they announced that it was renewed for a 3rd and final season? Or was that 3rd and 4th season with the story ending with season 4?

It was previously confirmed that the plan was to tell the story of the Dance of the Dragons in 4 seasons.

Hopefully ordering season 4 so early means that the break between season 3 and 4 won't be the two years (hopefully it's only two years) we'll have had to wait between season 2 and 3...lol who am I kidding.

They announced a 2028 release for season 4 the other day.

Season 3 is coming next Summer (2026), while Season 4 is coming in 2028.

Also, for all that people take umbrage with there being 2 years or more between seasons of HotD, it's entirely a Broadcasting decision rather than one dictated by Production factors.

Remember how the Fantastic Beasts series was announced to last five movies? Or a fifth season of Westworld? Or a fourth season of GLOW? Or... etc.

Or, heck, remember when the US government made a rule presidents could only be elected twice?

Just because a plan may not have changed from earlier announcements doesn't mean there isn't value in restating the plan from time to time.

Consequently, most of those are WB properties as well...

I still feel sad at the lost opportunity with Fantastic Beasts. First movie had a great concept, but it was clear that producers didn't know what actually made it successful. I just wanted more Newt and his escapades with his friends. They apparently thought otherwise as he took a backseat to his own movies in the followups. And to this day, I feel that the one message we got out those is that you can and should do more with less, ie less is more.
