Are you "aging out" of Star Trek?

I dunno if I "aged out" or not, but even by TNG I was finding Trek getting creaky and repetitive and behind-the-times compared to the more innovative series of the era. Over time, I've less as less interest in sci-fi full of space magic science, which was always there in Trek but grew increasingly absurd as the various series have worn on.

I would say it comfortably competes with the original and comedy central runs of futurama.

The less said about the soulless disaster of the hulu revival the better.
Gonna have to disagree in that regard, at least as far as my tastes go. I happily watched all of the original and Comedy Central runs of Futurama, whereas I was done with Lower Decks by episode six.

Its not about aging out it about quality of the newer shows. The writing is mostly horrid save for Picard season 3 abd a few episides of snw. I still love trek especially TOS and all the way through TNG and all the Berman Treks. I hope Kurtzman is fired soon and we get a more classic take on trek. What dies that mean? Let's get rid of contemporary 20th/21st century slang and swearing. No more 20th/21st century style clothing. No more soap opera romance (i.e. Spocjs constant romances). No more ridiculous comedies every season.

I will say this. One thing these new kurtzman era shows do wonderfully. They make me appreciate TOS, TNG,DS9, VOY, ENT and all the movies even more. Those days really were the best of Trek. Im not saying every episide was great and we didnt have the occasional stinker but on the whole it had a pretty solid world building atmosphere and you could easily tell different eras. Now the 23rd, late 24th early 25th (mostly first two seasons of picard) and 32nd century look nearly indistinguishable at times. Its hard to tell the era sometimes. Section 31 supposedly took place in the 2330s but looks like the discovery 23rd century or discovery 32nd century. So bad.

So..
We could never appreciate Trek until Kurtzman? What an odd thing to say.

Because Enterprise is still awful despite Picard Season 2 and 3. TMP is still one of my least favorite films despite Insurrection.

This argument is absurd on its face.

I tried watching Far Beyond the Stars the other day for the first time in years. And I KNOW it's a wonderfully written and acted episode. It's great. But I also lasted maybe 20 minutes because, 1. I've seen it before, and 2. with how things are filmed today, the episode really feels like a 30 year-old TV episode.

I've found that happening a lot of older shows I liked back in the day, not just Trek. They're still good, but I feel like I really need to be in the right mood and mindset to watch something from a bygone era. I'm sure I'll be feeling the same way about current TV, like SNW, in another 30 years. Idk what all that means, just an interesting observation I suppose.

Nope. I appreciate it a ton. Kurtzman Trek is so bad it makes me appreciate previous trek all the more. Those were the golden years for trek. Nothing will ever surpass it. Certainly not a puppet episode.

Why does new Trek need to surpass it?

It's all Trek. I like some; I don't like others. New stuff doesn't make old less or better. It's a nonsense standard.

Sorry guys but unless you're watching every episode of Star Trek Scouts, you've already aged out of Trek.
I guess I haven't aged out yet.
No, we/they’ve aged out of Scouts, not everything else. I’ll never watch the “Lwaxana takes Alexander to the mudbath on the holodeck” episode again either, but that doesn’t mean I’ve aged out of TNG, let alone Trek as a whole.
I mean, all I can say to that is... The higher, the fewer.

I wondered about this but no I didn't age out of Star Trek, Star Trek aged out of me by becoming simplistic and without substance.
I love Trek. It's my favorite entertainment franchise, but I've long since lost any illusions about it. It's no where near as sophisticated or deep as we like to think. Even on its best day it pales in comparison to shows like Hill Street Blues or Better Call Saul. ( to name but two). The modern shows aren't any more simplistic or insubstantial as the older shows, they just don't have the benefit of nostalgia goggles.

Nope. Picard season 3 is the most overrated. Lower Decks got great once it found itself during season 2.

I love Picard Season 3. I don't care if they did fan wank stuff. It's no different than the wanking Strange New Worlds tries to do every season. But Picard Season 3 did it better ... 😂

Not even close. It did a Discovery story and people treat it better.

In my opinion, one of the major problems Trek has is that real life is far more interesting that fiction nowadays. When you really get into UFO's, DMT, breakaway civilizations etc, constant stories about Spock's sex life, and incessant goofiness just doesn't cut it. Modern Trek has dumbed itself down at a time it should have fully embraced the zeitgeist with imaginative and thoughful sci-fi.
