Its not like they haven't done it before.Mr Ellis has more than enough money to burn.
Would imagine that he's probably willing to spend the bucks for another flash & bang Trek like the 2009 version.

Good. I need some pointless in my life. Everything is too pointed right now.Why even bother? Just make a new TV show.
A Star Trek film not connected to anything from before just seems utterly pointless.
God forbid someone has the temerity to laugh on screen. One of my core criticisms of NuTrek, starting with the 2009 movie with JJ Kirk and continuing throughout the shows, is the immature behavior of the characters.
Judging based on the body of work of John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, I'm very skeptical that they are a good fit for Star Trek.
All of their movies are either comedies or have a very comedic/juvenile tone:
- Horrible Bosses 2011 - crime comedy film
- The Incredible Burt Wonderstone 2013 - comedy film
- Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 - animated science fiction comedy film
- Horrible Bosses 2 - crime comedy film
- Vacation 2015 - road comedy film
- Spider-Man: Homecoming 2017 (comedic tone)
- Game Night 2018 - black comedy action film
- Vacation Friends 2021 - buddy comedy film
- Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves 2023 - fantasy heist comedy film
- The Flash 2023 (comedic tone)

To be fair, that actor's take on the titular character is essentially comedic in nature in any given film, regardless of who's writing.
- The Flash 2023 (comedic tone)
Except that's not all that's demonstrated. Kirk literally matures throughout. One of my core criticisms of NuTrek, starting with the 2009 movie with JJ Kirk and continuing throughout the shows, is the immature behavior of the characters.

Unlike Orci & Kurtzman who wrote the Kelvin reboot there is no mention of them being Star Trek fans. Not sure if that is a good thing or not.
It's ok for producers not to be fans. Fans don't always make good art within their favorite franchise. These dudes did reboots of Spiderman and Vacation. Spiderman reboot was OK. I didn't see the Vacation reboot/sequel but I don't think it was successful financially or critically.
