I knew they filmed most of the show in Albuquerque but I felt like I was tripping during the Barnes & Noble scenes because it looked so much like the one in Durham. I guess they repeat interior layouts.
Oh I’m sure. Now the upstairs is used mostly for the YA and kid’s book stuff, but it’s also where they have author readings.

I never really got into Breaking Bad and BCS as I felt they seemed to portray ABQ in a bad light, but I think I’m going to like this. I do love seeing familar places and actor friends who have bit parts in Vince’s work. My wife even got to bump into Bob Odenkirk in a BCS scene that was sadly cut.

ETA: The older man who takes over lowering the guy on the cherry picker is actually a good friend of mine! He’s a local play director. So cool!

The creepiest thing about the show is how Carol can't get the other remaining humans on her side. How the Indian woman doesn't see a difference between her son and the enslaved version of her son. How she is the only person left who seems to value freedom.

It captures how it feels to discuss with others on AI topics who can't see the problem of sacrificing agency for convenience.

Like I said in my review, I think a major reason for that is that Carol is seemingly the only one of the six who saw someone die during the Joining while the rest didn't suffer such a loss. They live in a certain degree denial because they didn't experience any kind of trauma.

I don't know. I have a coworker who is Venezuelan and we get into debates about free will. He believes that there should be an AI algorithm which determines the resource distribution of the world. He can't be convinced that the value of free will outweighs the value of an all powerful tyrant trying to serve everyone's needs.

It's the people who have experienced trauma who won't fight for free will, they'll just fight for the pain to end. And that's what episode 2 of Pluribus showed us.

I'm not saying those who don't experience trauma won't for free will. I'm saying that these individuals didn't experience during this particular once-in-a-lifetime seismic event aren't concerned about free will because they didn't experience trauma.

Also, like I said before, I suspect that they may know more about the Joining than Carol (and us viewers) because they actually asked the Others about such information whereas Carol has no interest in it (again, fueled by her trauma).

Just watched the first episode and I haven't read this thread on fear of spoilers. My initial thoughts is this show is creepy, and this is like what if the Borg (Or the Conspiracy Aliens) invaded earth and was successful. That sequence with Carol in a state of panic when Helen died was eerie, and the. talk with Taffler was even more eerie. I'm intrigued so far.

But everyone else in the world (except for 11 others anyway) would know all about it and what went on. That's kind of creepy.

The 11 will also know retroactively, after the hive mind's goal to bring the 11 into the fold is achieved. So thinking fourth dimensionally its only masturbation.

The Hive might have difficulty reproducing if they don't see any joy in sex.

The Hive might have trouble existing after their composition is 7 billion people and 9 billion babies who never grew a consciousness, if there is no more individual growth after you join.

The glue is a weapon to clear people and leave the cities standing.

Or when the aliens arrive, they are immune to the glue and they have 6 billion slaves who just want to submit.

Just watched episode 2 and I think I'm done with the show for now. Wasn't really a fan of episode 2, and with Stranger Things and Fallout coming back, I can put this show on the backburner and watch it if I have an interest during a slower time.

Some additional thoughts I forgot to include with my review last night:

Will we learn how there are 12 uninfected people and why that number is seemingly so low? Or will that remain a statistical anomaly best left unexplored? Gilligan is probably more interested in exploring the psychology and sociology of the situation rather than the scientific details.

Perhaps a more pressing question is what caused people like Helen to reject the Joining and simply died? How many people died directly because of that rejection? Zosia told everyone the total number of people who died altogether as a result of the messy Joining process, but Carol didn't ask her specifically about those who rejected the infection and I couldn't help but notice that particular omission.

In fact, it is curious how the only information the Others provide are from direct questions. But I might be mistaken on that observation.

I was pleasantly surprised to see Karan Soni pop up as one of the first scientists who got infected. Here's hoping he'll reappear later on in the season because he's always a joy to watch.

On a different note, I could've sworn that the Barnes & Noble that Carol did her book tour stop at was the one in Durham, North Carolina. It looked exactly like it, both inside and out...but it's entirely possible that a lot of Barnes & Nobles have very similar layouts.
I want to know if the guard at the research facility got his bag of chips out of the machine.

I'm guessing he didn't get his Frito's fix.

If i was one of the unaffected ones during this global alien virus, one of the things that i will do is to request my favourite music acts to perform live for me.

SNSD, Foo Fighters, Koda Kumi, Ed Sheeran and many others will do live performances for me in a nice large concert hall while i eat some nice hot chicken drumsticks.

Too bad Michael Jackson died too soon.

Gods bless Rose Nylund! Providing levity to an insane world.

I wondered during the trailer when Carol kept escalating what weapons she could request if she would go all the way to an atom bomb...and sure enough, she did. Both bewilderingly and unsurprisingly, the Others indicate that they would actually give it to her.

Which rises some curious questions. Despite having access to all the world's knowledge and experiences, the Others don't appear to have a firm grasp on such concepts as sarcasm, depression, or even danger (among others). Yes, they suspected Carol was sarcastic about the hand grenade and yet they still sent Zosia over with a hand grenade and allowed a drunk Carol to handle it. Even worse, they don't immediately and unequivocally say no to the atom bomb, saying they would weight the pro and cons and suggest they would still give it to her...all for the sake of pleasing Carol. Which begs the question why aren't the Others able to grasp such concepts when all of human existence understands them?

I'm glad Carol finally brought up agency directly when she confronted Zosia about how the Others cater to her every need...until she is forcibly Joined once the Others figure out the mystery of Carol's immunity. I think this is one of the most salient themes of the show and I hope Carol to continues to tackle that issue as the show progresses. Hopefully with more nuance and less brashness than she did with the other English-speaking immune individuals.

On a different note, something that's been playing in the back of my mind since the beginning but was brought to the forefront in this episode is where is everyone? Yes, they all magically appear at a moment's notice to satisfy Carol's wants and demands, but where are they living? What are they doing? Why is all food removed from grocery stores? Yes, the Others said that's all about efficiency but what about their set-up is more efficient than people continuing to live in their own homes and gathering food from already established storages? Do people go directly the warehouses instead? This all ties into the massive shutting down of power throughout Albuquerque (aside from the essentials, of course!).

That said, catering to Carol's need for Sprouts is going to lead to a lot of food waste, at least for fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, and dairy.

I'm trying to think of who I'd want, and most of them have died. I sure wish I'd seen The Cranberries play.
Well, I'd be happy with a Geddy and Alex live Rush acoustic show, but now that they have chosen a new drummer for their 50th anniversary tour. Marillion will be a lovely opening act.

what a episode 3

the 1 lol scene was when carol went to the grocery store and saw it fully empty like it looked like the store had just opened for the 1st time then after carol asked the hives what happened they said that it was to conserve and when she wanted her fruits then a load of trucks comes with a bunch of people and the fix up the store just how it was like before

the other was when carol asked for a hand gernade and whats happens whats her name bring her a hand gernade which was a live one and carol said that she was being sarcastic and also at the same time thought it was a fake one
