The 2010s. Season 6 will be present-day-ish, if the pattern holds.
2012 from the teaser in S4, but the teaser in S2 actually took place in 1995 but S3 started in 1992, so we could technically start a little earlier and then jump ahead during the season (a la Season 1 and 3).
I think Season 6 could be early 2020's, then Season 7 being roughly "Present day" (given 5 in 2026, 6 in 2027 and maybe 8 in 2028/29) - the jump between S3 and S4 was only 8 years after all.
It also means they can use a "present day" song in the teaser at the end of S6 too.
If Al Gore holds a full two term Presidency, then we'd be heading into an Election in the season again, and if we hold the two term alternating party they've maintained since S2, it's due to be a Republican. I've mentioned upthread, I think it'll be Vice President Bragg that comes into play - which could feed into the concept of Martian independence.

Season 4 took place in 2003.
The flash-forward at the very end of the season was to 2012. So, Season 5 will either take place in 2012, start there, or end up there. I'm looking forward to seeing what their version of the 2010s will be like.
There was a good idea there, just piss poor execution. The affair was not a good idea, but a good idea being a time bomb waiting to go off in the worst possible situation.
Someone said that Ron Moore's reaction to audience negativity toward Danny was to double down on more Danny. That seems very "cut one's nose of to spite face."

I am guessing no Iraq or Afghanistan war. Self driving cars. Musk being just one among others with these kind of cars on the streets. First Olympics in space perhaps. Obama still becomes President. Peyton Manning wins 3 Super Bowls and is seen as a bigger legend than Tom Brady. New Star Trek series starring Tom Cruise whose career kind of went downhill because of no Mission Impossible movies. So he has come to tv to bring back a beloved franchise. New Orleans is completely abandoned after Katrina. Rise of Dome cities popping up on earth.
If Ron Moore's goal was to make us not miss Danny at all, he succeeded in spades.

I'm pretty sure you still will have Muslim extremist though if Russia didn't invade Afghanistan then it is likely that America doesn't help fund Osama Bin Ladin so things would be different in that regards as well. Not to mention less need for fossil fuel means less conflict over oil so that also changes the game as well. Hatred though because of religion is unlikely to change even without these factors. I don't see the Israel and Palestine conflict being much different either.
I also wonder about the IRA. Does the IRA still exist. I am unclear as to what the British have been doing in this universe. I think Princess Diana is still alive though.
