Godzilla, Kong, Gamera & Co.: The Kaiju Mega-Thread

There must be a reason it isn't "Minus Two". Maybe things are getting better, not worse.

Following -1 with -2 is going backward. A sequel is usually one digit higher than the previous, and -1 + 1 = 0.

Godzilla +1

The first rom-com in the franchise

If it were Godzilla x Zero, it would be a crossover with this guy:

Now, that would be something to see. "You're 20,000 years too early to beat me, Gojira!"

They've released a new short called Fest Godzilla II: Shinjuku Burning. I tried to find Fest Godzilla I to watch first, but I can't find it. There are a lot of videos with the titles in Japanese, so it might be one of those.
It won't let me embed it

It's become custom for Toho to do an annual Godzilla Day festival on November 2nd, which was the release date of the original Godzilla in 1954, and to do short films specifically for this celebration. In past years, those were mostly CGI-animated shorts and live-action shorts using the traditional suitmation technique.
For a couple of years, these live-action ones had a slightly serialized narrative, but the narrative isn't really the point.
In this case, it is apparently the start (or close to one) of a new narrative, which is just a Godzilla-rampages-through-city bit. There is a hint at the end at another kaiju for Godzilla to face off against in next year's short (presumably), but it can certainly be enjoyed on its own.

One slight note, that building with a Godzilla sculpt on top is a real building, a Godzilla-themed hotel, and it certainly serves as a nice meta moment.
Also nice to see them using the MireGoji suit. For the longest time, they stuck to the Final Wars suit, which, as far as Godzilla designs go, is extremely dull.

I actually just found out about the Godzilla head on top of the hotel a couple weeks ago, so I thought it was kinda funny it showed up here now.
Which movies did they use that suit in? I thought it looked familiar, but wasn't sure where it's from.

That suit (with slight variations from movie to movie) was used in four of the six Millennium-era movies, namely Godzilla 2000, Godzilla x Megaguirus, Godzilla against Mechagodzilla, and Tokyo S.O.S.

I've seen all of those except vs Megaguirus, so that would explain why it looked so familiar.

I wonder if they'll resist the temptation to add another Kaiju to the mix; or, if they were, would it be Anguirus, since he was Gorjira's first foe.
