What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Something similar happened in the Robocop reboot. I remember seeing the '87 suit make an appearance, possibly early R&D, before they went for the new design. Then they sadly made that black, which ruined it a bit.

I didn't mind the look of Robocop in the reboot. But they should never try and make a PG-13 Robot cop movie. Robocop movies demand over the top excessive violence. Even if not made in the 80's it still needs a touch of that 80's vibe to it IMO.

This might be a controversial opinion, but I think in a perfect world Jerry Goldsmith would have been as associated with Star Trek movie scores as John Williams is with Star Wars. Even though that would mean losing James Horner's Star Trek 2 score, which I will admit is magnificent.

That said, now that Goldsmith is no longer with us, I would happily pass that torch on to Michael Giacchino.

I think DS9 Season 4 is my favorite season of Old Trek.

"How is that controversial?" Because I just gave an answer other than TOS Season 1 or TNG Season 3. Not to knock either of those! They're up there too.

DS9 season 4 is the closest to a perfect season the franchise ever got. There wasn't a single bad episode that season. (Even "THE MUSE" had a good idea with the creativity vampire, and the Odo/Lwaxana story was really sweet.)

I consider it my favorite in the franchise, also.

DS9 was the best Trek before Lower Decks.

FIGHT ME!
My daughter and her friend are watching Lower Decks. You know what? It's good. It's damn good.

The PLAN was that they would alternate between DS9 and LDS. (They have a friend at school who is a howling Niner.) But they're just mainlining Decks.

(Daughter has grown up as, well, my daughter. Friend... Well... As an ongoing social experiment that began when we started her on Rebels without seeing any Star Wars movies - hee hee hee - she has never seen any Star Trek except SNW and TOS. I figured she would at least know who Picard was. I was incorrect!)

They did at least watch Emissary. Which is good because I can at least explain the connection between Shaxs and Kira. (They both love Kira after one episode.) And they are both at least amused by first season Julian Bashir.

As far as I'm concerned it's lucky that DS9 is as good as it is because I could justify making someone watch all of it just to see Take Me Out to the Holosuite.

Lower Decks: Wej Duj is just one of the best Star Trek things EVER.

Lower Decks is great fun.

Pretty much the opposite of DS9.
And yet DS9 had...

"RIVALS"
"THE HOUSE OF QUARK"
"FASCINATION"
"OUR MAN BASHIR"
"TRIALS AND TEIBBLE-ATIONS"
"IN THE CARDS"
"THE MAGNIFICENT FERENGI"
"WHO MOURNS FOR MORN?"
"ONE LITTLE SHIP"
"HIS WAY"
"TAKE ME OUT TO THE HOLOSUITE"
"BADDA-BING, BADDA-BANG"

And more fun episodes. Not to mention the B plots of many other episodes were fun and light-hearted.

DS9 had dark episodes, sure. But they were balanced out with the light ones. DS9 was definitely the most balanced series in the franchise.

Here a take that might be controversial. Janeway is a more fun character than Sisko. DS9 is the better show and I would argue Sisko is better written but Janeway is more fun overall as a character.

Not bad. I wouldn't call her fun but unpredictable. She would go do random stuff depending on the needs of the plot, which could work very well. She has some great moments of warmth, like the homeless alien guy who thought she was his daughter, or completely insane ones like piloting closer to a sun to tell an alien to F off.

I guess that's fun. Janeway: putting the F-U in fun.

I admire Sisko, particularly as a father.

But no I would not call him “fun.”

As far as Captains go, I’d say maybe SNW Pike is the most fun?

I don’t know. This would inevitably lead to a tedious discussion on the definition of “fun” in which I have no interest.
