Tron was at the big ENCOM presentation on the Space Paranoids game. Seriously he is standing at front of the stage at front of the huge crowd…
Seriously there is fan in vintage style costume. That is most direct reference to the character in Ares.
Something that is very undefinable and possibly off putting about whole series to audiences- are the programs alive? Even if they are artificial life what are lives like? Do they eat, sleep….. sex???
The original movie had deleted love scene between Tron and Yori. It was fully completed and is bonus feature on home video releases. Seems to be a couple different reasons why it was deleted so late. If early there would be no completed effects. Either cut for pacing issues or too erotic for Disney in 1982. Bruce Boxleitner himself said it was confusing. How can they be sexual if just programs?
Legacy and Uprising pushed further them having more human lifestyles. But do they really die?

They (Disney) don't want a repeat of the John Carter financial disaster. Their market testing and audience screening data probably showed there really wasn't a lot of buzz/excitement or a huge audience for this film; so they are cutting their losses.
I honestly wonder how this film got greenlit in the first place. Some suit at Disney must be a MAJOR Tron fan.

Well, at least with a title like "Tron: Ares" you know what you're getting into.
In the case of John Carter they didn't even get the title right because of the industry perception that movies with "Mars" in the title were destined to fail.
It's strange isn't it. I noticed a similar phenomena during the marketing for Crystal Skull. Normally in a media blitz, the company would amp up commercials when they're slated to appear on talk shows, especially if they're part of the same company. This did happen for Crystal Skull, however, strangely enough while Harrison Ford was on, they didn't end up talking about the movie at all. They would talk about everything under the sun but the movie, which I found very strange and it struck me that maybe Disney didn't entirely believe in the movie. Dial of Destiny got way more talk in comparison when it came time for its media tour.
And back to Tron: Ares, still haven't seen a single commercial, and while I've been watching a talk show, they only sent one actor to talk promote it, and it wasn't Jared Leto, but someone lower on the totem pole. Nothing more, which is interesting because more prolific movies with more marketing will sometimes get multiple of their stars appearing on talk shows, sometimes all at once even.
I saw a bunch of ads for Ares on mobile platforms like the Lower Decks game. They rivaled the quantity of commercials for that idiotic Royal Match game.

Ah yes, the old Westworld problem: the more human-like the hosts became, the less interesting they became, and when the show could always introduce a new backup file of their entire minds, it was impossible to take their deaths seriously. Oh no, Dolores died for real, the last of her, we swear!
Next season: Guess what? We found another Dolores! But, she's got a different hair color this time; awesome, right?!
The obvious issue with marketing and box office - 15 years since last movie. Unless raised on the movies by their parents most teens have no idea what Tron is. Disney should have marketed this like it was a whole new idea. Which seems to be very reason they did decide to build story around new character. Uprising was right after Legacy and had a short run. If they wanted to keep the brand alive between movies they should have continued Legacy. Or done another show. Also push video games.
