"I float for the users!"Pretty sure he got out. He's Tron after all.
"I think Disney really overestimated how much people like Jared Leto,"
They (Disney) don't want a repeat of the John Carter financial disaster. Their market testing and audience screening data probably showed there really wasn't a lot of buzz/excitement or a huge audience for this film; so they are cutting their losses. It doesn't help that there's been little to no advertising. I venture to guess there are still loads of people who don't know this movie actually exists.
Just like John Carter. They (Disney) don't want a repeat of the John Carter financial disaster. Their market testing and audience screening data probably showed there really wasn't a lot of buzz/excitement or a huge audience for this film; so they are cutting their losses.
I honestly wonder how this film got greenlit in the first place. Some suit at Disney must be a MAJOR Tron fan.
Well, at least with a title like "Tron: Ares" you know what you're getting into. They (Disney) don't want a repeat of the John Carter financial disaster.

Legacy and Uprising pushed further them having more human lifestyles. But do they really die?
It was Jared Leto who was a major Tron fan and pushed for this. Originally, Ares was supposed to be a supporting character in an early draft for Tron 3 that would have followed where Legacy left off, but when that project couldn't come together, Leto stepped in as a producer and eventually managed to get Disney to sign off on a new version set mainly in the real world in which Ares would be the main character.I honestly wonder how this film got greenlit in the first place. Just like John Carter.
There's a recap sequence at the very beginning that covers the events of the first movie. It kind of glosses over Legacy, but also tells what happened after it that set up the situation in Ares.I'm going to see Tron: Ares on Sunday with a group of friends. A couple of them haven't seen the other two. How accessible is it for newcomers? Should we give them a mini-recap of the other films in the saga?![]()
What's awesome about a rated X sci-fi project? It would be possible to do a good John Carter movie, but Disney is incapable of making it. It would probably need to be CGI or animated, be rated R to X, and encompass an era of thought that is FAR behind us. It would need to fully embrace Burroughs' original work, right down to the nekkid Red Men of Mars. Think Heavy Metal meets 19th Century Sci-Fi. Throw in a thumping soundtrack and it could be one of the best movies of the century. But it would have to be marketed properly and people would have to understand that it is based in 19th Century morals, not 21st.
Could be awesome. At this point I'm reasonably sure nobody will ever dream of doing it.
