New Classic Who Blu-Ray Sets (2021 edition)

Can't wait for S13! So glad the issues with Robert Banks Stewart's heirs didn't mess up this release!

Physical media rights and streaming rights will be two different things.

That's why you can still buy a brand new copy of 'An Unearthly Child' on DVD as part of 'The Beginning' box-set.

Good news for those of us who buy the standard editions, season 20 is out in September according to Amazon.co.uk.

Lee Binding has said that Peter will be the main focus on the front cover, with Colin worked in elsewhere - maybe the back cover and probably the inner box art.
Colin 70's porn stache on the inner cover? I still remember the "My Doctor / My Pimp" animated GIF entry to a contest here many years ago I did featuring a 6th doctor shot and a Colin stache shot lol.

Season 21 likely is the next set but they have said multiple times they are recording material for more than one set at a time.

The BBC will provide replacements for the faulty discs on the S20 box set.

Which discs are faulty? I had some sound issues with mine where I had to play something twice for the sound to work but I've had that on other BBC Blu-Rays. I just assume the problem is with my player.

Don't think there were any sound issues - the problem was that the way the discs were encoded resulted in some players having issues with juddery motion. I didn't notice it but am getting the disc replacements in case I get a new player which does suffer.

There was also a missing CGI effect on the new version of The Five Doctors - one of the Raston teleports. That is something I noticed, so glad it is being replaced.

Git my copy of S13 today and after hearing over the weekend that the AI upscaling was not great I've just checked it out for myself.

It's not uniformly bad thankfully but it looks like they cranked the knob up to 11 on 'The Android Invasion' turning people into blobs when they're not close to the camera. The DVD is actually better so I'll have to hang on to it.

Yeah there's been a bit of noise about that. I've only watched Zygons and did notice some of the episode 1 film sequences look a little over-processed. It's that early Blu-ray edge sharpening look, presumably to try to blend it better with the later episodes that have the original film.

It's not actively bad and overall is still an upgrade on the DVD, so I'm not too fussed. I'd like them to dial it back a notch when they get to Season 11. I do think some of the reaction has been typically overblown, with some fans claiming it's "unwatchable" and that the set is worthless. A bit of perspective needed I think.

Will keep an eye out for Android Invasion.

I’ve just watched two episodes of Zygons and I don’t really have any issues with the picture. In fact, the exterior scenes look great, looks like they managed to find the original film? Often the outdoors scenes were incredibly blurry but this is sharp and I’m even seeing some film grain.

Maybe I’m easily pleased, I don’t know. I love this season though. Definitely my favourite in the entirety of Who. Going to cherish each episode and all the features.

Yeah they have the original film for episodes 3 and 4, and parts of 2. They were scanned in SD for the DVD, but have been freshly transferred in HD for this release. I agree they look wonderful.
