Okay, hello, I'm iggy, I've actually been getting into star trek alot recently and I have a few questions for whoever would like to help me out.

I got introduced to star trek by the SNW series, which I know isn't the best way to start off since all the characters are actually so different to the past ones, especially spock.

I have been watching TOS, and I enjoy that one quite a bit better than the SNW series.
I also have watched the first three star trek movies aswell so I have basic knowledge about star trek at this point.

I was just gonna ask, what is the best movies out there? Also which series should I spend more time watching, I have heard TNG Is a good series I do enjoy watching spock and kirk and the original characters.

Which would be best to spend mh time watching first?
Should I watch the animated ones?
What movies are the best ones?
Which spock is your favourite?

Personally my favourite one is Leonard nemoy.
But Zachary was kinda good in the 2000s star trek movies.

SNW is a great way to get started. It's a fun show.

I have been watching TOS, and I enjoy that one quite a bit better than the SNW series.
I also have watched the first three star trek movies aswell so I have basic knowledge about star trek at this point.

I was just gonna ask, what is the best movies out there? Also which series should I spend more time watching, I have heard TNG Is a good series I do enjoy watching spock and kirk and the original characters.

They're all pretty good in different ways, and people have their favorites. You can't go wrong with TNG, but expect to be unimpressed with season 1. Honestly, a fun way to watch if you have Paramount Plus is to go to their LIVE section and just view what's on the live Star Trek channel just to get a random sample. You might find something you like. Star Trek 4, 6 and First Contact are all really good movies. 5 and the other three TNG movies are ah mixed blessings. Section31: you don't have to do that to yourself.

For the best movies and the next series you should watch, I guess it depends on what you want out of a movie or series. Do you like action and adventure? Character growth and change? Something that's fun and/or funny? Something serious that raises serious issues that makes you think and question?

If you liked the first three movies (III, The Search For Spock is my favourite Trek film ), definitely watch IV, The Voyage Home (or "The One With The Whales") as it continues the story from II & III and is a lot of fun.
TNG has a wide variety of genres within its many episodes (some good, some bad, and a lot in between), so that might be a good series to watch next as you're bound to find something you connect with. If you like character work and an ongoing storyline or continuing themes, Deep Space Nine is very good (but also has it's share of terrible episodes here and there, just like any other Trek series).
I wouldn't skip the animated series - I haven't seen much of the original Animated Series, but some say its a good continuation from TOS. I love Lower Decks as it's fun (and often funny), has some amazing characters who learn and grow and change over the course of the show, plus it's very good with continuity & world building and brings up and expands upon many forgotten things from earlier shows.

As for your Spock question: Stephen Manley is my favourite Spock.

Just kidding! (Although I do like his performance in ST III) Ethan Peck is my favourite.

OHHH, yes I have actually seen IV I do really like that one too actually I found it really funny compared to some the other movies. I thought Spock was absolutely amazing.
What in your opinion makes VOY better than TNG?

I really enjoy the movies that make you think and question to be honest. I also enjoy a funny movie, I really enjoyed Star Trek IV because I found that one quite funny actually and cute, although I enjoyed Star Trek III because it was a lot more serious and it was a bit darker and to see the captain go through so many emotions in one movie was quite emotional to watch.
I have actually watched IV and found it quite funny.
Once I finish TOS I'm defiantly going to watch TNG, I've heard so many people talk about it so I'm actually quite excited to watch it.

Now this answer is actually so interesting to me because Ethan Peck gets a lot of hate on the show because a lot of people really hate how he is written.
I really like Ethan Peck I think he really can pull of Spock, I have noticed though throughout the movies and shows and all they have made Spock a lot more Vulcan, like with Leonard in TOS he has quite a lot of emotional moments in the series, than as the actors changed Spock slowly got more robotic I think. I do think its cool to see all the different portrayal of Spock and there isn't really any of them I dislike I like them all for different reasons.

I don't really know, I just like the characters I think - every character has a personality. It scratches all the right spots! Plus, Janeway, she's my favourite captain. Oh and also, "there's coffee in that nebula". I think the premise is also really interesting. Apart from that I don't really know why I like it more than TNG (which I also really like, by the way), it's just one of those things, I guess.

OML yes I completely agree! I have seen some people just absolutely slander Ethan Peck which I think is wrong because he still does portray Spock really well.
I actually just watched some SNW I'm still in the process of catching up, but I just watched the Ep where Spock was turned fully human and I have to say that is defiantly one my favourite episodes so far, I really do understand why people like Ethan Peck he is excellent. Plus he is defiantly one the most attractive actors who's played Spock.

definitely watch ALL movies because they're all good and then pick your favorite one(s)! my personal favorite was the final frontier for its humor. I guess you've already started a Star Trek series but I definitely recommend Star Trek: Voyager and DS9 if you've already watched TNG (if not then watch it first.) and I personally don't think the first TNG season is bad. they were just figuring out the characters and how to plot episodes, I think they're really fun. Ofc the last seasons are the best tho.

so yea definitely watch all movies and start off with TNG and after that either DS9 or voyager. chronically DS9 comes before voyager but I personally liked watching voyager before DS9 cuz DS9 is a quite different type of star trek.

DS9= very much politics (less philosophy)
Voyager= very much philosophy (less politics)
TNG= both

Hi there. Certainly just about any of the series and movies are worth trying out, though of course TOS is the one that everything else derives from (and the one that a lot of us old people grew up watching again and again growing up, since that was the only one for many years). I’m also quite partial to Enterprise, though many people aren’t. And the first three movies, which you say you’ve seen already, have actually always been my personal favorites. So if you’ve seen those and you’re watching through TOS, you’re actually right where a lot of fans were in the early to mid 1980s, before TNG happened.

Hi, good to have you on board!

For the TOS movies, it was often said "the even movies are better than the uneven" -- 2, 4 and 6 better than 1, 3 and 5 ... but it really boils down to your preferences and expectations.

Star Trek V is often called bad (or even the worst of the TOS movies), because it has many very cheesy elements, looks cheaper, and its humor is rather silly compared to IV ... but I kind of like even V, much like I also like the cheesy and/or silly TOS episodes. But it's definitely more a B-movie, compared to the others.

When you like serious topics and/or real world analogies, you'll probably like VI. It's an analogy to the fall of the East Bloc around 1990, with quite a few political allusions.

As for which show to watch next, after you've seen SNW and TOS? I'd say, watch either TNG or ENT next.

TNG is probably the most "classic", most defining series, behind TOS, that made Star Trek what it is -- everything that followed ows a lot to TNG. But as others said, be aware it had a slow start, the first season (and to a lesser extent, the 2nd, too) was still rather uneven and the show didn't really find its definitive formula before season 3.

I wouldn't recommend watching DS9 and VOY before you've seen TNG, because they both more or less took TNG as a starting point and went into different directions from there.

ENT, however, kind of works after having seen TOS and SNW, as it's a prequel to TOS, has more nods to TOS than to the other shows, and even its characters were meant as a variation on TOS characters: A Yankee as Captain, a Southener his best friend (this time, chief engineer instead of doctor), a Vulcan first officer (this time female).

As for the animated shows, I absolutely adore LD, but you will probably enjoy it better, the more of the previous shows you've seen, because it's filled with nods, allusions and parodies on elements of the older shows.

I'm a bit underwhelmed by TAS and consider it mostly an unnecessary addition to TOS, that is extremely dated, by today's standards. The animation is stiff and unimpressive, the same music plays over and over again. If you don't mind that, you'll maybe enjoy it nevertheless, but imo, you don't miss much if you skip it.

It makes no sense to watch PIC without having seen TNG and the TNG movies first.

DSC is very different than the other shows. I personally don't like it. Others obviously enjoyed it, but I'd say it's least representative of what Star Trek's core is, because it's so different, so it's probably not a good start, if you want to get a feeling of the franchise.
