Spoilers The Strange New Worlds Starship Thread™

But by that same logic, every StarShip down the time-line in this SNW Time-line will get scaled up proportionally.
Nah. Not really. Excelsior is really the only one as it was supposed to be a larger ship compared to the Enterprise. Bumping Excelsior up to the same length as an Ambassador solves that issue while still leaving the Ambassador and Galaxy significantly larger.

Its also worth noting that the 290 meter length of the TOS Enterprise was so it matched in size, roughly, the nuclear powered carrier USS Enterprise, so audiences and such would have a "real world idea" of the size of the ship.

At 440 meters the SNW Enterprise is as long as the Empire State Building is from pavement to the top of the tip.

IIRC the size of the TOS Enterprise was also decided when it only had 1 deck in the saucer and was never changed when 2 were added.

Think the official change was 15 meters.

290 TOS vs 305 for Refit/E-A but I think that was intended to be the swept back pylons and the new "hot rod" style nacelles.

It really isn't. One close look at its surface details is enough to show it has been scaled incorrectly over the years.

Luckily, there has never actually been a canonically stated length, so bumping up it's "official" size shouldn't be any real issue.
There's also conflicting sizes in BTS info. the ST3 Size Chart says 466.6 meters, the DS9 Tech Manual says 511.25 meters, and the Gary Hutzel used 457.2 meters in 1998. According to Memory-Alpha at least.

An OAL for the Excelsior of 550 meters would still work fine. That'd be 100 meters longer than the Enterprise so still a "big ship". The Enterprise D is still 100 meters beyond that and is mostly hull, as opposed to the Excelsior and Sovereigns.

Like..if you remove the nacelles and their pylons..the Excelsiors and Sovereigns arent exactly massive ships.

I thought the:
- TOS Connie was 288.6 meters long
- TMP Connie was 305.0 meters long
- Excelsior Class was 467.0 meters long
Never stated or shown clearly on screen.

Whereas we do have this onscreen used cutaway that depicted a Constitution at around 450m.

hm, ok maybe the Excelsior does need to be scaled up. I'm not sure which scale STO uses for the Excelsior, maybe someone can eyeball it. They do use canon/BTS sizes if they're known (and not too big/small for gameplay), but if there's multiple ones I'm not sure which one they choose.

Didnt it say the Akira had like..19 photon launchers?
No it was the opposite end of being wrong, it said two.

Alex Jaeger said in an interview that he gave it 15, which I believe is accurate, I'd have to count again.

Edit: yeah, there's 15 visible launchers on the model.

Thank for sharing. Those images of the sizes in perspective.
Perhaps it’s time to convince the STO devs to upscale the Excelsior I class. Put it on the same skeleton as the Obena and Excelsior II.

They probably won't unless CBS/Paramount officially does, and even then it would probably would be unlikely unless they are directly told to.

So do the movie 1701 Enterprise and the A also have to have their lengths scaled up accordingly or are we assuming Starfleet refitted ships and built ships to be smaller?

STO is a bad example to use because the actual TOS Constitution is in fact scaled down to be smaller than the SNW 1701 Enterprise model they use in the game. Per what they showed on screen in this episode for STO to now have an accurate SNW Constitution Class, they'd either need to scale up the TOS Connie model or scale down the SNW Connie so they are the same size in the game.

What @Dukhat said. The stated length of 305m is already too small to fit several of the interior spaces seen throughout the films. Plus, the length of 305m has never once been seen or stated on film.
