How well would Kes fare in a cold environment?

Kes is quite an unusual character in Star Trek and I have a little problem establishing if she would fare well in a cold environment. I read in a fanfic somewhere she might fare worse than humans in a cold environment. As for canon, she only really appeared in controlled environments like Ocampa city or Voyager, or warm planets like her homeworld and that planet in “Tatoo”. So, can you tell me what do you think about this?

She should bring a coat.

Oh, and she probably would just heat the air with her mind. So she wouldn't need a coat.

She’s dead by now, so it doesn’t matter.
I do not believe that Kes is dead. She likely surpassed her 9 year lifespan becoming omnipotent.

BTW, was it ever explained what exactly triggered this evolution of her being?

I see Kes as being a bit like an X-Men character now, perhaps like Phoenix. This means that she would probably not like the cold, as she is an entity of fire and rebirth.

However, this all reminds me of the title of that Kes/Ocampan centric Voyager episode, Coldfire.

Since the Ocampa are rather similar to humans, she would have problems in a cold environment.
She would need to dress in warm clothes, just like humans do in areas with cold winters.

If you look back at the original hairstyle of Kes, some may say that this was a 90’s fashion choice, of if they wanted to be mean they could say that this hair style looked like a wig. However, could it be that Kes had plumes of feathered hair with an insulating layer of down underneath, to protect her from the cold?

Even though Ocampa was a warm planet during the day, it is entirely possible that temperatures could have plummeted to below freezing during the night. We know little about this planets seasonal temperature patterns either. The lack of water does not negate the possibility of either temperature extremes on this planet, this was an external influence resulting from the Caretakers interference, not a natural phenomenon.

The Kazon had similar feathered and plumed hair, which adds support to this theory….

It is possible that lots of species in this small corner of the Delta Quadrant developed plumed or feathered hair with a soft and fluffy under down in order to survive, providing thermal insulation for their brains in harsh extremes of temperatures?

I'm not so sure when it comes to Kes, she altered her harcut somewhat later on which could have been difficult with the plumes of feathered hair you describe.

The Ocampa are also mostly fair-skinned which might indicate that they are not from a hot planet. Ocampa obviously had an Earth-like climate before the warming.

As for the Kazon, it look like some genetic thing. But if it had something to do with harsh temperatures, then the Trabe should have had the same hairstyle since they lived on the same planet as the Kazon before the kazon revolted against them and chased them away.

It's too bad she was written off the show. I had envisioned an episode where she was sick/injured and the Doctor/Alien Scientist could only cure her by splicing in another species DNA and thereby bypassing her 7(?) year lifespan?

That would have removed the specter of her having such a short life span, and they could have transitioned to her new hairstyle as a result of this change...

This is a very good idea. Too bad it didn't happen...

Good suggestion.
But the shorter hairstyle was better, sort of trademark for the character.

Nice idea, but it would have been cool to have kept Kes on the show for the full seven seasons so that we could gradually watch her get older and older and see how the makeup artists dealt with this transition. Would Neelix and Tom Paris have stopped being attracted to Kes in her old age, or did people only like her when she was ‘young looking’?

Also, we could have seen Voyager returning home at the same times as Kes passing (or evolving) at the end of her short life? This would have been an ironic story point for the character.

But… as Voyager returned home, we could have seen a firey Phoenix rising from all of the celebratory fireworks at San Francisco. That would have been cool.

I have made some AI artwork of Kes and her evolution:

… and the Voyager return home video so you can see the fireworks that Kes could have been flying amongst alongside Voyager upon its return to Earth;
