But yes we find bones what's the problem?

Don't worry he is onboard an Independence class Armed Freighter, just in case...
I remember reading that Terry Matalas was disappointed with Kirk's death, so he brought his character back in Star Trek: Picard season 3 through Project Phoenix. This was a strategic move, in case anyone wanted to revive Kirk within the main storyline.
In the realm of canon, Daystrom might have envisioned a similar approach—reviving myths to inspire the Federation or untangling enigmas that defy explanation across the cosmos. Imagine the potential to resurrect heroes and experienced officers with indomitable character and reintegrate them into service.
Usually, they die in space, leaving no bodies to retrieve. But here is the chance to develop the technology and bring back a true legend of the Federation.

While a nice touch...I kind of have to wonder if it was simply because Kirk emerged from a magical space time magic carpet ribbon and S31 was like "cool"
Honestly? That was my take on it. One would assume that after the full debrief and learning about the Nexus, they knew of only one person to actually fully go into the Nexus, remain there for both (almost) 80 years but also just a few minutes and then come back. Soran and Guinan only flickered in between I believe.
So yeah, I can get why they'd be interested to see if anything interesting could be found be disecting his remains.
But they didn't disect him. Rewatch the scene the body is being kept somewhat alive
Yeah well, study, examine. I used the wrong word. I'm Dutch and I'm stupid.
Hey no worries It's cool.
Hey the Dutch gave us Lego, perhaps one of the greatest inventions ever.
For the bolded part, the rest of the world is forever grateful. We gave you cheese and weed.
For the bolded part, the rest of the world is forever grateful.
That was the Danes. We gave you cheese and weed. And stroopwafels.
Well, I'm on my way out the door to my place of employment-- a legal weed dispensary in Washington State, so thank you for my job.We know.
We know..............
Actually, that felt appropriate, even a bit poetic to me. There's almost certainly some gaudy over the top memorial to Kirk on Earth, either in San Francisco or Iowa (maybe both) that would probably had embarrassed Kirk had he seen it. But for a man who history remembers as exploring space, discovering new world and expanding the frontier to have his final resting place be on a distant world, one humanity probably didn't know about during his lifetime is something I think, had Kirk known would have put a smile on his face. Kirk considered space to be his true home, not Earth. I think he would prefer his final resting place to be either among the stars or on a distant world as opposed to Earth. It was bad enough his fate was so disappointingly handled, but it INFURIATED me that Picard buried him like he was a pet hamster in the back garden or something. Kirk was one of the most legendary figures in Starfleet’s history. What gave him the right to lay him to rest on Veridian? They should obviously have put him on ice and had him taken back to Earth and given a proper state burial. That just bugged me no end. It was just another example of the rushed and inept writing.
To inflate the production budget.Even when watching Generations all those years ago, I never believed that Starfleet was just going to leave Kirk's body there. What I wondered about was Picard lugging Kirk's body all the way back up to the top of that outcropping and then finding the smaller stones to actually cover the body up with.
