A few very random bullet-point comments:
  • I LOLed during the closing credits to learn that Otis’s last name in this movie is “Berg.” (He had no last name in the Reeve films. On Supergirl, he was Otis Graves, Mercy’s brother. On Superman & Lois, his last name was Grisham.)
  • My only complaint of any significance about the film is that Lois and Clark don’t get enough scenes together. Both have meaty roles and plenty of opportunities to shine individually, but Lois probably spends at least as much screen time with Mr. Terrific as with Clark/Superman. (The hangar door bit, BTW, is probably the single funniest moment among the many laughs in the movie.) The interview scene is great, well-written and really capturing the crackling dynamic between the characters, and Brosnahan and Corenswet have fantastic chemistry. But I wanted more, more, more.
  • Brosnahan is jostling for the top spot among live-action Loises, but Bitsie Tulloch still exists, so it’s a tough call.
  • I like the little touch that Pa Kent is a big cryer. It’s gently funny and rather sweet.
  • Loved Alcock’s cameo. She’s funny and looks great in the suit. Left me even more excited than I already was for Supergirl.
More thoughts to come, probably.

I dunno...it dovetails nicely with the way she got to Earth, which was many years later in a spacecraft and having lived for many years in a Kryptonian culture, accounts for him being hers instead of Clark's, and also for Clark's relative unfamiliarity with him.

Big plot hole with Supergirl being there as she would have known Jor El and hence could give some insight into his character. It’ll also be interesting if she had a mission as well.

I just noticed I called things “funny” or “funniest” three times in these notes. How nice is it that a live-action Superman project is willing to foreground funny again?

There are some nice comic beats between Jimmy Olsen and a character to be named later. ;)

You know, Mr. Terrific would hate having to hang with Olsen on a mission. Which is the ideal formulation for a buddy picture. ;)

Since Clark is taking care of Krypto, I’d say she may not have been Earth-adjacent, so probably out of the loop.

Only 16 votes total? Nobody's going to the movies?
I wish I knew what this meant :vulcan:

I thought we didn't want quips or humor? Or am I misunderstanding?
There's quips and humor, then there is Avengers Age of Ultron level quips and humor.
Superman 2025, me personally not liking the movie aside, the jokes and humor are not at tiresome levels at all.
The hypno glasses scene is a perfect example of humor done right.

Sure.
Overall, I didn't like the movie, like at all. That's why it got a 1 from me.
What I did like but has no effect on my rating:
- Mr Terrific and his tech handling, plus Edi Gathegi is long overdue for a front starring role and no, X-Men 15 years ago don't count.
- Will Reeve's cameo
- The Engineer

That's about it.

Huge Nathan Fillion fan here. How was his portrayal as Guy?

Guy being a prick is the most accurate thing the movie did. Now we just wait until Batman punches him.

Huh. Don't see that at all.

He commands a lot of people sitting at computer monitors? I guess there's that. So maybe a little scene blocking is similar.

That and with them all clapping and cheering each other on doing nefarious things.

I love all the Justice Gang, and I hope to see more of them.
As someone already mentioned, Hawkgirl and Guy are in Peacemaker Season 2, and Guy will also be in the (Green) Lanterns series on HBO Max. Nothing's been confirmed for Mr. Terrific yet, but I read an interview with Edi Gathegi the other day where he did seem to imply he already knows about some kind of plans they have for the character.

I can't be the only one seeing that Ultra Man is going to become Bizarro now? All the clues were right there.
Yeah, I had the same thought.
We saw it this morning and I absolutely loved it.
I think the biggest thing for me is that the entire cast, and especially the big three, David Corenswet as Superman/Clark, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois, and Nicholas Hault as Lex were absolutely perfect. All three are right up there as absolute best versions of the characters we've ever gotten. All three characters really felt like they jumped right off the comic book page, which is a nice change after the last few adaptations had made some significant changes or put them into positions we never really saw them in the comics, both in good and bad ways.
One thing Gunn has always excelled at is the mixture of humor and drama in his movies, and we got that here again. It had it's serious, but he also worked some genuinely funny, that were worked in in a way that didn't hurt he more serious elements.
The action was absolutely spectacular, and I loved how they worked into those little moments, like Superman stopping in the middle of fighting the kaiju to ask if the people in the office were OK after he stopped the it from destroying the office.
It had a great story to it, with some nice twists and turns. The one big change from the comics that I could see would have to be the Els' message, and I could see that being somewhat controversial with some hardcore fans, but they're not that big of deal to me, so I'm not upset but it. After some of the movies having given us kind of silly schemes from Lex, this one felt much more true to the character, especially once he revealed his motivation behind it. One concern a lot of people had going in was the number of other heroes and villains, but I thought Gunn did a good job of giving them all logical roles in the story, but without stealing the spotlight from Superman.
As a dog person, I absolutely loved Krypto, and the little bit with him and another character at the very end was great.
I went with You'll Believe A Man Can Fly for my rating.
