^ Really? I thought everyone knew. :rommie: My flirting is almost as legendary as "The Mustache" in the Misc Picture thread. I even took a moment out of my day to flirt with Gertch earlier.

But, yes, I love "NIN".

:vulcan: Well, thanks for sharing guys... I don't feel quite so alone now... and more importantly... I felt accepted into this family, but now I KNOW I'm accepted after reading your comments. :vulcan:

Which actions? And why should a city lose a sports team just because a mayor drops the torch?

On, on second thoughts, take the NFL team... you can have them.

Frank Gore is way too cool to be playing for the Niners anyway. The whole team should be taken away.

What actions? Hmm, running a sanctuary city and defying the federal government for starters. Then again, it's doubtful that the influx of illegals will be able to afford Niners tickets anyway, and they're likely not playing the game of football they're used to.

Forgive a "straight" schmuck for wandering in here. I have a question. Ever since George Takei publicly stated his preferences, there's been an endless stream of "gay Sulu" jokes. But, can a legitimate case be made that possibly the character of Hikaru Sulu is indeed gay? Obviously, it would partially depend upon which stories one accepts. several of the novels, at least as far back as "The Entropy Effect" presented Sulu having relations with women, but if we limit ourselves to what was shown on-screen, is there anything that blatantly refutes the possibility? Yes, there is his daughter shown in "Generations", but we don't know the details about that arrangement; even Kirk was surprised.

I've been wanting to ask this question, but I feared starting a thread on the subject may have been taken out of context, some people suspecting it to be nothing more than "troll bait". Frankly, I think it would add a lil' hint of realism to the "classic" crew. After all, it was integrated in nationality, gender, even species, so why not sexuality?

(Very) sincerely,

Bill

I think that Takei has stated his opinion that Sulu is heterosexual. That may not be the final word on it and I may be wrong, but he certainly was an enthusiastic participant in "Worlds Enough And Time" which portrays Sulu as pretty straight.

Again, how this connects to the action of the mayor is unclear. If I disagree with the administration of Anaheim, should Dinseyland be moved?

As if that's recent, or even Newson's idea. The S.F. Board of Supervisors declared San Francisco a 'sanctuary city' in 1989. If you wanted the Giants so bad, you should have backed up the UHaul when Bush 1 was in the White House. :D

All it means is that no San Francisco employee will help with immigration with immigration enforcement, which shouldn't be their job, anyway.

And the city is hardly alone...

Back to the actual thread topic, I never thought Sulu was gay, even though I figured out George was gay back in the 80s when I read an interview with him where he used gender neutral pronouns in a very "I'm avoiding the subject way" that. "I never met the right person."

Sulu? Gay? Nah.

Interesting question. If you ask why not sexuality, then the same question should well be added why not polygamy & incest? These are after all all forms of alternative sexual lifestyles. Who is to say which is right & socially acceptable or not? Who is to pass judgement & say same sex is ok, but the other two are not?

The point being, when that door opens, others will want to walk through it, not just same sex oriented persons.

I never thought I'd read a post in this forum where it is questioned whether membership in the Federation leads to incest.

Wow, just wow.

Don't the Andorians practice some sort of polygamy? An certainly the Federation has no problem with women being trade about as sexual objects, we've seen that twice now I think TOS/TNG.

Oh bother...not the tired old polygamy thing again.

If the law says person type A and person type B can be joined in a civilly recognized union, it is discriminatory to say person type A can't be with another type A, because that's unequal treatment under the law.

If polygamy or incest was legal for some and not others, then they would be the same legal argument. They're not, ergo, they're a red herring insofar as the same sex argument goes. It's like waving a "shiny thing" to distract from the real issue at hand.

Even though I'm gay, I believe one should not have to make a statement one way or the other. No one had to stand up and say, "Yeah I'm straight" or "Yeah, I'm black" although I guess that is the only way to get gays accepted. Sulu could be bisexual... one never knows.
Perhaps in the future no one will have to declare it one way or another... just be accepted for who they are and how they were born; race, sexual orientation, religion, gender, etc. :vulcan:
