Denis Villeneuve will direct the next James Bond film, Amazon MGM Studios has announced. He will also executive produce alongside Tanya Lapointe.

Villeneuve is supposed to be filming Dune Messiah this year (anticipated release December 2026), so we're probably looking at 2027 for the next Bond film, but 2028 is more likely.

1. They will continue with Daniel Craig style movies, this choice probably shows that.
2. They do not want to establish a Marvel style universe.
Villeneuve is in interesting choice for the Bond franchise, which primarily consists of action movies while his movies tend to be more character oriented than Bond films typically are. I do like his movies, and I'm interested in seeing what he brings to the Bond franchise, but this news is very surprising all the same.

Ah, maybe they'll do that; outside of the Bond movies, they'll 'make' 2-3 spin-off 'tv series' for Prime Video focusing on other Bond characters. They'll have shows set in the same universe as the new movies they'll make. But they won't make 1 movie every year.
They could do something like the last 2 bond movies or casino royale.

Wow, I never expected Denis Villeneuve would direct a Bond film (regardless of the recent gossiping). I love hiss film so I'm quite curious to see what he brings to the film.
What I find even more interesting is that we know the director of the next Bond film before knowing who the next Bond will be. That was definitely not the case the last time around.
Is it bad that I hope they choose someone as "controversial" as Daniel Craig (or even more so) because how much that'll wind up certain corners of the internet?

When every corner of the internet is trying to wind up the other corners it doesn't really create positive vibes.

This strikes me as a good sign. Choose the creative first, then settle on the actor(s) later.
