Spoilers Russell T. Davies Returns to Doctor Who as New Showrunner

I've actually been hearing a lot about this "Died of Cringe" thing the past day or so, seeing it posted here made me decide, what the hell, I'll check it out.

Meh. "Doctor Who, yes it's still on" and "A CGI monster destroying the whole of London again" were alright lines which did make me smile. And the one playing Kate actually does a reasonably well impersonation of Jemma Redgrave, but that was otherwise a rather forgettable means of complaining over the show having diversity.

Yeah, I wasn't keen on how they handled that joke, but there was a joke there to be made. When the diverse cast only exists to be hugged and then just stands around for the rest of the episode, there are real problems there.

When the writer makes a point of the trans woman vanishing because Conrad couldn't imagine her, and then has her vanish from the episode completely 10 minutes later after helping Ruby put on a backpack, there are real problems.

Rose suddenly vanishing again was jarring, but I'm assuming this was a scheduling issue with the reshoots and they just weren't available rather than RTD just blithely not caring, or worse, going out of his way to cut them from the episode.

Outside of her first appearance she basically does nothing except be as relevant as the old Tardis hatstand. And even the hatstand had Frontios.
(And the less said about what the scientific advisers are bringing to the table beyond rather bad Bond gadgets, the better.)

RTD *thinks* he cares, but also isn’t thinking about what he’s doing.

The reason this skit is a big deal, is because it’s the BBC, and Culshaw, and Dead Ringers. It’s friendly fire. And rather than coming entirely from a place of love, as send ups usually are (Lenny and Thatchos back in the day…) it’s coming from a place of incredibly accurate but close-to-the-bone criticism. The fact *an actual line from the episode* is right there in the performance, and doesn’t seem out of place is part of what makes it such damning satire.

Though, they did miss out on having someone get offered a job. That’s become a running joke at this point.

Well that last 20 minutes were only added in February, so who knows what else was there originally.

Cover of the new DWM. Not looking good for the "she's not the new Doctor" deniers...

And am I crazy or is that clearly her head stuck on Gatwa's body with the arm recoloured?
