This was a lot of fun. Perhaps not upper tier Marvel but a great ensemble cast firing on all cylinders, chemistry between the various leads and the usual strong blend of humour and action. This made it one of the best non-sequel post-Endgame entries since Shang-Chi and the most enjoyable MCU film in yonks. I enjoyed Deadpool v Wolverine a lot but it was mostly a lot of in-jokes aimed at an established audience, whereas this one did advance the MCU somewhat (I unfortunately have yet to see BNW, so I was a little surprised that Sam hasn’t yet put together an official Avengers team).

If the rumours that this movie’s director is also doing the MCU X-Men movie are true, that would be excellent news.

My dad listens to some kind of sports talk radio program and he said they were praising that episode on air.

Well duh, a white American Soldier killed a Nonwhite guy with an Accent. Of course certain folks would love seeing that.

Slight tangent here, but this is quite an interesting interview with Wyatt Russell, in which he is clearly is quite proud of a tv show called Lodge 49, much of which was directed by Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier. Inspired me to check it out (available on ITVX on this side of the Atlantic) and I’m enjoying it so far. Not very super heroic but shows both Wyatt and Jake’s penchant for comedy.

I've vaguely heard of the show if only in the context of Russell being on it. But I didn't know Schreier had directed a bunch of episodes for it. I might have to check it out at some point considering how much I loved Schreier's work with Thunderbolts*.

I remember it looked interesting in the ads, but I never got around to checking it out.

It was probably a contractual obligation from her executive producer credit from Black Widow. If I recall correctly, John Favreau had executive producer credit on the Avengers movies for similar reasons.
Ah, that's right. I forgot that happened with Favreau.

I think the movie is still called Thunderbolts. The New Avengers nonsense was just a marketing stunt.
The sequel will probably be that.

Given how obsessed some people are with getting an exec producer credit on anything it's heartening to hear Johansson tried to get it removed.

I'm not at all sure there'll be a sequel apart from Doomsday/Secret Wars. I liked the movie just fine, and I'm sure Yelena will stick around, but if those two movies are going to refocus the universe, I'm not sure "The Crappy Avengers" is a concept that needs to be revisited past then.

Yeah, with them potentially cutting back on the number of releases, I can't imagine they're going to want to give up a spot to these characters when they're going to have the other New Avengers, team which I'm assuming will include characters like Sam Wilson/Captain America, Shuri/Black Panther, Shang-Chi, Dr. Strange, and Thor, and the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men.

I think the potential of a sequel won't happen simply due to this film's timing. The fact that it came out just prior to the next Avenger event will undoubtedly prevent any natural progress for the team, at least in its current form. In the wake of the event, I'll be very surprised if the team is one and the same, whether together as a team or even alive in some cases. It's a shame since I loved this film so much, but considering the Avengers event will be heralding the arrival of mutants in the MCU, there isn't going to be much room for the Thunderbolts.

Regardless, I'm just happy we got the film that we did.

They won’t be the crappy Avengers when Wolverine and Spidey join their team
