Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

I still often ponder if they foolishly assigned the task of R&D for the XL E-A model to some summer intern who happened to be someone's relative high-up the food chain and didn't know the first thing about the ships. When you look at that thing, and compare it to one of the other XL's like Voyager or Reliant, which were damn nice, you really wonder what the hell happened there. :WTF:

I know that Ben attended many conventions over the years (and still does) talking about their products. Has anyone ever asked, "Dude, WTF was up with that XL E-A??" Inquiring minds, and all that...

Must have been the same guy who did the Stargate Puddle Jumper.

The bizarre thing is the sculpt for the pre-Trumbull Bridge superstructure is actually accurate to the reference photos! Whomever was doing the modeling work for Eaglemoss did a fantastic job... for the wrong damn ship.

And really all they needed to do was proof-read the primary hull. The secondary hull, nacelles and pylons all seemed to be pretty much correct.

Didn't much care for the decals, either. They were a little oversized for the scale they were shooting for.

There's not a lot of models you'd want redone, especially given how many ships they did by the end, but the ones you would are mostly Big ones. Most of them are Enterprises, even, and most that aren't are Starfleet.

I know Ben Robinson answered why they never did a separated Galaxy Class/E-D but I wonder if he’s ever said why they didn’t do at least the “at warp” Voyager.

Same basic reason, I believe, that they wanted to do it as moving parts but couldn't. Which doesn't really wash, three versions of the Bird of Prey and all.

Honestly, 90% or so of what they did was great, but the remaining 10% was full of completely baffling choices.

Oh, speaking of Fanhome retreading EM... how about an SNW version of the Enterprise? Updated engine detailing, windows on the saucer and maybe a metallic paint scheme (I know that last part is asking too much, they always go with flat gray even when these things look metallic on screen these days).

Anyone compared the LDS Titan to the Picard Titan? Did Fanhome reuse EM's old LDS sculpt?

I don’t mind them redoing some of the Eaglemoss stuff. A SNW version of the Discoprise makes a ton of sense. And I’m sure eventually they will want to do the classic hero ships. The Enterprise, the E-D, Defiant, Voyager, etc…

But there is no way we’ll get redos of Kes’ Shuttle or the TOS Orion Ship, etc…

The LDS Titan is more purple than the novel Titan, IIRC. The PIC Titan is a completely new ship (Conny III) ;)

Fanhome also did Riker's Titan, which Eaglemoss did in two flavours: LD and a "realistic" version which appeared in the PUC S2 and S3 fleet scenes.

It's now been...
- 29 days since I ordered the Stargazer from Fanhome and got a confirmation that said it would arrive within 3-9 days, which it didn't
- 12 days since I sent them an email and they only responded they needed some more time to answer my question
- 1 hour since the Paypal payment authorization expired

I guess they don't want my money...

Hate to say it but anyone ordering from Fanhome (subscription or otherwise) should expect this on a regular basis. This is coming from personal experience and interactions over the last 2+ years and hearing similar stories from many other Fanhome customers.

Damn. This reminds me of back when Eaglemoss was just starting out. Extremely painful dealing with them in those days. It’s like they weren’t at all prepared for the demand and took a long time to spool up into something functional.

I have the Mego Refit Enterprise still - with most of its striping intact. Am missing the primary deflector dish sticker, and the nacelle grill stickers however. Overall, it’s a fantastic starship which is one of my favs from yesteryear!

Edit: forgot to mention: I also have the original box also!

The South Bend Enterprise is something Aridas would call Tikopai…Shaw’s version pointing to that…UGH! Models and Eaglemoss the true Phase II (Constitution II) and here is Mike Minor’s take:

Now, was the South Bend Electronic Enterprise have molds in the US or Canada?
I got the South Bend Enterprise when it came out - I still have it, unfortunately the white plastic yellowed like crazy and the decals stickers have seen better days.

The MEGO TMP ships never made it to my neck of the woods. I didn't realize they even existed until maybe 5-6 years ago...
