Spoilers Wednesday (Addams) Netflix Show

As excited as I am about the second season, I'm going to hold off watching that video. Trailers are fine, but a full six minutes? Nah, I can wait.

I wonder if the spin-off they're planning will be an "Enid" TV series? Since the character has been so prominent in marketing, they might be considering a spin-off.

How many seasons is Wednesday, ideally?

MILLAR We’ll take as many seasons as Netflix wants to give us because we made a mistake with Smallville at one point. We had a five-year plan, and then the show went on for 10 years. So we’re not going to get out in front of that. But we certainly have a plan for season three and beyond, ways to keep evolving the character and follow her journey into adulthood. The great thing about Wednesday is she’s got the bandwidth of an AM radio — in season one, just a hug could be emotional. She’s unapologetically analog, and she’ll go into situations that she hasn’t thought it all the way through. For someone who’s so smart, she also makes a lot of mistakes — which is fun. It makes her human and not feel like a superhero.

Are you thinking of perhaps introducing a character in season three who could support their own show?

MILLAR Potentially. I mean … it’s interesting to go into season three without getting an audience reaction from season two yet. You never want to be beholden to comments on Instagram. But it’s always good to get a sense of what worked. And we have certain characters who come into season two that we think are wonderful and that the audience is going to fall in love with. Most of the time, the audience adheres to what you think, but sometimes they can surprise you. So it’s about being humble and listening to feedback without falling into the trap of — as we call it — being “fan fucked.” We always want to follow our own instincts. So I think some of those questions can be answered more fully after people react to season two.

I think this is an insult to the show's young fans, because young fans want a relationship between Wednesday and Enid. But I think the writers, being two 50-year-old men, don't want to write a lesbian relationship. Because from what I read on social media today on the show's fan accounts,


according to Hunter Doohan, who plays Tyler, Tyler will still be in love with Wednesday. And interestingly, there aren't any fans of the male characters among the show's young fans. Generally, fans of this show are fans of the female characters and their actors.

That doesn't follow. I'm a year younger than they are (they're actually 57-58, born 1967), and I've written a fair number of lesbian, gay, and queer relationships in my career. If anything, it was writers of their generation, and mine, who first pushed the envelope of LGBTQ inclusion in broadcast television. So if they have an issue with it, it's certainly not because of their age cohort.

On the other hand, it is also said that the character Tyler will appear in one episode and that the actor playing Tyler is on a trip during filming. Jenna Ortega has also said that she is now an "executive producer" and that there is no need to write a Wednesday love story.
 
Started my rewatch of season 1 tonight. I really love the music of this show. After watching the season originally and now watching it a second time, I think Ortega might challenge Ricci as my favorite version of Wednesday Addams. She really is great in the role.
