If Gatwa is indeed out, I imagine they won't say anything until they have a new Doctor cast. He made a comment on the Graham Norton show last year about shooting S3 that was immediately walked back, and if D+ commits to a Christmas special there's just enough time to make it.
Unless of course, D+ has indicated that it will not produce S3, in which case BBC needs to find a new partner, in which case I could see the BBC/BW into letting NG go if there's going to be a hiatus before producing a new season.

It's funny, I was talking to Scott Handcock at Gallifrey One, trying to get anything I could out of him about it. He wouldn't say much but when I said "Silurians," he corrected me by saying, "no, Sea Devils." It's also 5 episodes in length and it was the first thing RTD pitched for the Whoniverse even before anything about DW itself.

That isn’t upscaling causing all that. Parts of it, and not just the writing, are outright generated. Eyes. Hands. Logo. Handwriting… it’s clearly an AI job.
It would be funny if they buy the rights to the 2005-2022 episodes and decide that means they won't need any new ones.
Disney Plus should probably pick up the old seasons, including spin-offs, and maybe even the classic series, and air them. I think it might be more likely that they'll say okay to making new episodes with a lower budget.
Ι suspect, were for Disney to acquire the NewWho stuff, that RTD would push for that also.

He means Davies would probably try to convince Disney to acquire the US rights for the classic series (i.e. 1963-89).
And the 1996 TV Movie, too.
I think if Disney makes such a deal, they will buy all of them along with the international rights.
Allegedly half the reason this was rebranded as season one was because HBO was due a few more series on its existing deal with the BBC.
I don’t know if you gave Disney 62 years worth of content, most of it in relatively usable form, they would be gagging to pay for some new stuff. Certainly not at a high price.
