The James Bond Film Discussion Thread (With Bonus Lazenby!)

That is gonna be my next screenname...
You'll need to pay my late guinea pig a royalty. Perhaps 5000 Hartz pellets would be sufficient
"No, Mr. Heftycookie...I expect you to Crumble!.."

He didn't have time. Far too busy mating with his children. No self-control, I'm afraid. It shows you that line in SOAPDISH was right about certain GPs. Ramrod was actually Cocoa's nickname. His estranged-but-relieved wife Peanut was left alone her their second litter. By strange coincidence, when Ripley shouted ''RUN!!!!!'' as ALIENS aired on TV, Peanut whooshed right under our recliner like the Flash on crack.

As for Romperstomper....well, he outlasted Hiroshima Schwartz and Itchynipples, but they were never human either. Itchy's last name must remain classified for now to preserve his miniscule dignity-shred.
(He literally piped down). It's been 29 years, but you can't forget certain things.

I swear, the man was grown in a lab to be Bond.

Do people here realize that the director of The Cage gave a future James Bond his big break? You know, I was a big Remington Steele fan back in the day (NO!) but I've gone back to watch some old episodes and it's like plugging pure joy directly into my veins.

Goldeneye. 1995. Pierce Brosnan, Judi Dench...

I only realized five years back Robert Butler also directed the HILL STEET BLUES pilot. That show quickly tied with TOS for my all-time favorite program until TOS was ambushed and defeated by three upstart shows featuring Desi Arnaz, Andre Braugher and Sigrid Thornton.

I would like to find that lab...

I did not! That's super cool.

RS was appointment viewing in my house too. I'm glad to hear it's still enjoyable to watch!

I saw Mamma Mia recently and enjoyed it, but who ever thought, "oh yeah, Stellan, Pierce, and Colin, I should put them in a musical"? :guffaw:

I saw The Matador too. Pierce was amazing in that. But I haven't seen Mobland - anyone here seen it?

Mobland is... OK. Pierce is good in it, but he's not good enough to be like "who knew he could do that?", and it's not a good "Hey, lets go watch Pierce" part. I'm two episodes in and I'm pretty much in it for Hardy. (I have three hours of Andor to watch every week so that's eating up all my TV time at the moment.)

The Gentelmen? Now THAT was a Guy Ritchie show.

Mama Mia. Somewhere Gerard Butler is LAUGHING. "You thought I couldn't sing!"

My wife and I are really enjoying Mobland but it’s more Tom Hardy’s show than Pierce’s. Pierce is fun in it, though.

If you liked The Matador (definitely one of his best performances) try also The Tailor of Panama. I think both benefit a little from his having been 007, in the same way that eg The Rock does in respect of Connery.

So, you're all saying I should see The Tailor of Panama and Black Bag? Got it. Thanks! :)

ETA: Tailor is Le Carre? That should be an easy sell. My hubby LOVES Le Carre!
Films as well as books? Those who neglected the books might find themselves lost in the films (RUSSIA HOUSE especially). For a similar feeling, try to figure out HBO's ''Westworld'' with one viewing, if not more.

Moonraker is the goofiest Bond movie ever made that doesn't have Woody Allen in the cast but it's so much fun. It's ideal background Bond if you're working on something or just need breezy escapism with a killer soundtrack.
it does have one of the best soundtracks of any Bond film. Even as goofy as the lyrics are (and I don't think she even sang it often in her shows) Bassey's singing is beautiful, and the soundtrack in general is wonderful.

TSWLM has a bland enemy, practically cloned for Moonraker, but you get to see that not-so-nice-guy in Moore's bond in it, letting the henchman fall, or just repeatedly shooting the balls off Stromburg long after it was overkill. I know Moore didn't like scenes like that, which is a testament to how good a man I think he must have been, but that makes it work, along with kicking Locque's car off a cliff. You have to work hard to piss off Moore's bond, but when you do, it's over.
