The Down Under Lounge

Anyone else been getting texts from the Palmer abomination's latest excuse for a party? Damn the "major" parties for getting together and making it impossible to block the numbers that send such crap.

I've already voted. Quite the selection - the usual suspects, the aforementioned abomination's candidate, the Hanson abomination's candidate, some halfwit representing an anti vaxxer / science / anything sane and rational "party", and a complete fuckwit who should be banned from existence, never mind public life. It was bloody hard to decide who to put second and third last out of that lot (last was a very easy choice).

They needed put something on his face. As his party doesn't have anyone running in the seat that I'm in - so no messages yet. My plan is vote on Saturday at one of the primary schools near by.

I thought my link would go right to the bit I wanted. Dutton called the ABC, The Guardian and others Hate Media yesterday and today Jane Hume fronted the press to basically say he was joking

I saw something about that on threads earlier. I trust those sites more than sky news and other murdoch sites. One thing I am enjoying at the moment is watching less news. Plus Enterprise is better.

I hope none of you mind that I voted for an independent candidate, Peter George as I really like his policies concerning housing, health, education and LGBT+ issues. I voted second for Labor. I didn’t even put the Liberals last, that honour went to Brendan Blomeley (also standing as an independent). He is the former mayor of Clarence who I did battle with last year over his support of giving our parklands to the AFL for two training ovals. He also strongly supports the new AFL stadium which I strongly oppose. We ended up saving our parklands but the stadium is still plannne$ to go ahead. Blomeley is a c*nt, who let elderly people like me get bullied by the thugs who supported him.

Palmer accidentally called his own party "Trumpet of Parrots". Sounds about right.

Miss Chicken, I frown seriously at you for voting for an idependent, but then remember the one we had for years until cancer took him, Peter Andren, so I'll let you off this time! :)

if I lived on the other side of the Derwent River and had to vote in Clark instead of Franklin, I would have been voting for Andrew Wilkie for years. Best independent ever. He really voiced his opposition for Robodebt for years, also voiced his strong opposition to the Cashless Debit Card.

Franklin is a very safe Labor seat for Julie Collins. Last election she got 63% of the two party preferred vote. Wilkie’s even safer. In 2022 he got 70% of the two candidate preferred vote against the Labor candidate.

It is the other three Tasmanian seats that might make a difference. Braddon will probably be kept by the Liberal Party but the other two could go either way.

Just got back from voting. I voted for Tim Watts, as he is my local member and should be returned back to parliament. A good bloke, met him around 9 years when he was campaigning one day in Footscray as I was walking in the mall there. Voted 1 to 12, in the senate above the line. Made sure that certain parties didn't get a number.

Repeating what I said in the AL (plus extras):

I intend to ignore election stuff like the plague, possibly until tomorrow. Just hope the polls are right (for once) and we don't end up with Trump Lite as PM. If we do, we're screwed. If the current lot get back in, here's hoping they grow a collective backbone and start doing the job properly. For a so-called "progressive" party, they haven't been very progressive.

And it's well past time we did away with three year terms for federal governments. It would be good if someone put that on the agenda.

Not saying how I voted, but the complete fuckwit I mentioned in my previous post was the easiest choice ever for last place. Someone who routinely pesters, harasses, intimidates, threatens and abuses people - the vast majority of them women - shouldn't even be allowed to stand for public office. It's disgraceful that this person is allowed to get away with such crap.
