The James Bond Film Discussion Thread (With Bonus Lazenby!)

Pierce is hanging out with Helen Mirren rather a lot this year. (Well, in two things.) I watched Mob Land last night. It's OK. Nowhere near as good as The Gentlemen. But it's got more Brosnan.

Thursday Murder Club is my most anticipated film for 2025.

Anyone seen Black Bag?

Yes. It's VERY good.

Not Superman or FF?
Tied for second. (FF: I mean, how many times can they break my heart?) Although I did just see the new Mission: Impossible trailer.

But really, Murder Club is a hoot and Pierce should be AMAZING. He's not exactly being cast as type either. He's a cranky old union boss. Who solves murders. As part of a club. Helen Mirren? SHE'S playing a Helen Mirren character. (Retired spy.) And she'll be wonderful too.

Bond girl in a movie they showed us in high school English class.

I understand on FF. I almost feel that way about Supes after my deep disappointment in the Snyder movies, but Superman & Lois and My Adventures With Superman remind me there's still life in the characters.

Thanks for the rec on Murder Club. I'll keep an eye out.

They confirmed at Cinemacon that they will establish an international film distribution department, and they announced 16 films, 4 in 2025 and 12 in 2026, which will be released in theaters and the theaters have sworn an oath of allegiance. There are laws in France that say a film can be released digitally 9 months after it is released, and in Turkey 5 months later. That's why Amazon doesn't release most of its films in these 2 countries. My guess is that when France is a big market, every film will be released. But when Türkiye is a small market, Amazon will release most of its films directly on Prime Video.

So when Disney drops a new Marvel movie it can't go to digital in France for 9 months?
yes.

Which is what Amazon does in Türkiye anyway. Instead of showing most movies in theaters, it releases most movies directly on Prime Video in Türkiye.

When Netflix tried to nominate its movies for Cannes, the period was 72 months, but it was reduced to 36 months there. When Disney etc. entered the streaming business, they reduced it to 16-17 months and finally made it 9 months.

Not sure if I've shared this before, but here you go:

I rewatched GoldenEye for the first time in years over the weekend. Such a superb Bond film, one of the best. Shame Brosnan never got anything quite as good again (IMO obviously).

Great action, wonderful cast and at just a shade over two hours it rattles along.

Said it before, but this is the kind of Bond film Amazon should be looking to make. Fun, exciting, and standalone.
