Yellowjackets

The ending of episode 6 was great. Perfectly delivered "what the fuck!"

So Tai said something like "the only people who know about this are us or dead" regarding the DAT tape. Which seems to suggest there were no other survivors than the seven we know of (3 now dead)? Or I guess maybe Melissa got home too but Tai believes she died and maybe only Shauna thinks she's alive. Or, even more unikely but nothing would surprise me, Melissa got home but only Shauna knows about it somehow?

About the DAT tape...I kept feeling like I missed something, because all I heard was howling. The timer on the daughter's phone said 45 minutes, so I thought there must have been more on the tape that we didn't hear.

And I wonder if the guy who stumbled across their Coach BBQ isn't the one who was recording. Where else would that tape come from? It's too early for them to get rescued, so do they kill that guy?

As of now there are still several girls unaccounted for in the current timeline, Akilah, Melissa, Gen, Mari...is it one of them who had the tape?

Well…

I think Van’s old phone ringing in the box points in that direction…

Indeed, that was well spooky. Alongside Taissa waking up all weird are we thinking that the 'other' Taissa is running the body at the moment?

Well Misty wasn't with them and she obviously counts as part of the 'us' so it's possible that Melissa or Mari could be an 8th survivor, although they've never mentioned anyone else.

I feel so sorry for Ben, have been better off if they just shot him the first time :(

And yeah that was one hell of a WTF moment!!!

I was trying to work out if the tape was a recording of something that happened in the wilderness, or was a recording of what went on at Lottie's cult when Nat was killed?

And they'd have to kill that guy and the woman who's with him. I mean one could explain away cannibalism in the depths of winter when there's no other food, but in autumn, when you have a ready supply of rabbit etc? Eek!

Teen Shauna managed to be incredibly evil, but also vaguely empathetic when she covered coach's face.

What do we make of Akilah's vision of the weird three eyed bear?

It seemed to me that what little we heard of the recording matched the howling the girls were doing right before those people stumbled into their BBQ.

Van said something about DAT being used by “hikers and birders” (or close to that). So right now I’m going on the theory that the couple who discovered the girls are the ones who made the tape, and assuming those two were killed by the girls, someone (not yet seen in the future) brought the tape home when they were rescued.

All assumption on my part, though.

Yes! That's why Van's expression shifted when she said "birders"! Good spot.

Good episode yesterday.

Young Lottie was not playing around.

So now the woman who made the recording seems like she's joining the group, but doesn't make it home. And it's confirmed that Gen and Melissa are dead, but we don't know how or when.

Not sure I believe Shauna killed Lottie, but she abandoned her pals and went to confront the daughter by herself.

Also...Frog Orgy!!

I suspected the screaming nosies would be something in the natural world...but I didn't think of frog sex.

I still think Melissa's alive. It cut to Shauna's face when the others were talking about Melissa and Gen being dead. I think Shauna somehow helped Melissa get home (possibly made a deal with Joel McHale?) and the others didn't know about it. Hilary Swank playing Melissa would be far more satisfying than her playing the daughter of a character we just met this episode.

Frog Orgy or Frorgy?

I was going to say there was no way Swank could be playing Hannah's daughter until I realised Ashley Sutton who plays Hannah is 37 so if it was a teen pregnancy that'd make her daughter slightly older than the Yellowjackets, which would tally with Swank who is several years older than all the actors playing modern versions of the Yellowjackets (with the exception of Juliette Lewis). Of course the age difference is negligible enough that she could still be playing Melissa or Mari.

It's clear Hannah dies in the wilderness, but is it possible Kodiak survives? Maybe he escapes and because he's used to the outdoors actually makes it back to civilisation but doesn't dob the girls in?

I can't quite decide whether the random introduction of new characters is inspired or dangerously veering the show towards Lost territory?

Do we think Shauna killed Lottie? There might be another reason her DNA wound up under Lottie's nails. Walter could be lying, and remind me, where did he get those baseball caps? Could someone else's hair have been in there? I had a wild thought that Walter's DNA test wasn't very detailed and was showing mitochondrial DNA, which might mean the killer was Shauna's daughter (I don't think this holds much water).

It is interesting that Callie and Jeff are starting to realise mom hasn't always been a good person.

So yeah, the dark side of Tai is in charge!

Loved the two Vans scene.

Ricci is awesome, it goes without saying.

And can I applaud some lovely visual storytelling. Shauna's knife in the plastic bag and with the price tag still on it telling us she just bought it.

Well, we'll give partial credit...;)

Shauna went far over the edge, hard to see her coming back from that. I do like seeing how Jeff and Callie are bonding through their growing realizations.

I also liked the young Tai working out the reality of what will happen to them when they get back.

Shauna just gets worse by the week!

I thought Swank was good casting as an older Melissa. The backwards baseball cap was a cheap trick however.

I'm calling it now, they're making out Shauna is delusional but I'm betting it'll turn out someone is fucking with her and possibly did murder Lottie.

Great we got another Ella Purnell cameo.

I think it's Callie fucking with Shauna. Melissa mentioned she left a note with the tape, but Callie just gave the tape alone to Shauna. Could be that Callie killed Lottie too (probably by accident.)

I did suggest Callie might have killed Lottie. I still wouldn't rule out Walter just being a dick.

Just seen a Facebook post that pointed out how many times Shauna has bitten someone now! (not including eating dead team mates)

Just made it to the latest episode.

They aren't gonna to make it that everything turns out nothing was happening, and Shauna just was being paranoid. I think Mari or Akilah's alive...somehow survived it all.

Yeah, Shauna is going off the deep end and Callie is hiding something.

Crikey!

So a lot to unpack in episode 9.

Van's death was spoiled for me unfortunately. That said I was surprised that it wasn't the cancer that killed her but Melissa. Why did she do that? Is she hoping for the sacrifice to save someone else?

Melissa stabbing her I saw coming. Hannah turning around and stabbing Kodiak in the eye was fucked up. Initially I wondered if it was purely self preservation on Hannah's part, to give the girls leverage over her when they get back to civilisation, except Hannah has no idea how to get them home so she's just decided it's better to be on the inside of the cult!

Shauna...well what can we say anymore about her.

Do we think Walter killed Lottie and framed Shauna then?

The scenes with Liv Hewson and Lauren Ambrose were really well done. I like the fact that whenever one of them dies in the present they wind back up on the plane. That happened to Natalie as well didn't it?

I think I'd convinced myself that everyone knew Misty had hidden the transponder, but guess it was everyone in the present who found out?

I guess winter's back.

Crystal was the only one who knew about Misty smashing up the transponder. And Misty shoved her off a cliff right after. Funnily enough the others barely mentioned Crystal after that and still haven't found her body...

I thought it was self preservation from Hannah too...but she also seemed to enjoy murdering Joel McHale. Which is weird and really quick if it's supposed to be Stockholm Syndrome.

Was a bit disappointed they killed Van off, there's going to be no one left in the present day scenes soon. That's Travis, Natalie, Lottie and Van all dead within a short period of time. I think if four survivors from a plane crash (who are suspected of cannibalism) all died like that it would probably make the news.

Maybe Melissa was a secret member of Lottie's cult and that's how she became a true believer?

Hannah seemed suspicious of Joel, even before they bumped into the Yellowjackets. Walter has been BSing Misty, and there's something about Melissa. Where is she going? There's no going back to her wife as she wouldn't be able to hide the truth.

I think she thought Kodiak was some kind of serial killer maybe? She didn't seem to trust his stories, especially why his rucksack had someone else's name on it.

Oh yeah, even I'd forgotten Crystal!

Yeah there isn't going to be anyone left in the present soon. I can't see Swank sticking around for long given what Melissa has done to Van.

That's an idea about Melissa. Saw a theory that suggested Melissa is Walter's sister and they're in cahoots!

Misty rushing off like that suggests one of two things. Either what she saw proves Walter killer Lottie (but why would he keep the phone around if it incriminated him?) or it proves someone else, someone close to the group did it. Could be Tai, could be Melissa...but I wonder if it was Callie?
