Yellowjackets

Yeah I still enjoy it but I've given up hope of them having any kind of coherent plan for the present day stuff. At least it eventualy delivered on trashy fun.

I'm hoping they can address the issues of the 2nd season, I do wonder if they now have too many characters in the present and whether that's one of the reasons for killing Natalie off?

I still really like the show and I think the second half of the second season was an improvement on the first. I still don't buy that they have five years worth of story planned out however!

I might be able to watch this soon, looks like Showtime is being added to Paramount+ and I'd only have to pay $4/month more, might be worth it.

First two episodes of season 3 are out now. They were pretty good. I'm still finding the flashback stuff far more compelling than the present day stuff, but the present day stuff has a lot of baggage with how season 2 ended. I did enjoy Misty's drinking and Christina Ricci is always going to be fun to watch no matter what. But look at the difference between Lottie, for example, in the two timeliness. In the wilderness scenes you can understand why she'd believe in the supernatural force. There's enough reason for the view to think there could be something to it, so her scenes with Travis were very strong because we don't know quite what's going to happen or whatever direction things will go. But then in the present day she just seems crazy and completely wrong and that isn't as interesting!

I guess I can finally tell Melissa and Gen apart now. A bit silly that Melissa spoke more in these two episodes than the entire first two seasons, but at least she was entertaining here.

I'm happy Ben's alive and that Mari is getting a proper plot. I'm assuming we're supposed to think he was just talking to himself, but they could do a twist where there was another person in his hideout with them.

I've watched the first two seasons. While I have P+, I have the cheaper option without the Showtime add-on, so I bought S1&2 on DVD and watched those. An incredibly well-written and acted show, if a bit unrealistic. But I'm fine with suspension of disbelief for such a well-produced series.

One of the benchmarks of if I think a show like this is good or not is whether I can figure out what's going on or who is behind what. With this show, I've been completely wrong in my assumptions, which is a good thing. I will say this:

Even though Misty was the reason the Yellowjackets weren't rescued, I simply can't hate her character, either young or old. Yes, she's a nutball and a psycho (along with everyone else), but she's just fantastic, lol.

I'm also trying to figure out who the leader girl with the antler mask is. At first I thought it was Lottie, then I thought it was sleepwalker Taissa. Now it might be Natalie?

Mari singing 'I'm Too Sexy For This Cave' was the highlight of episode 3. It's great that the very busy Ella Purnell is still able to come back for cameos too.

It was obviously Walter who cut the brakes, right? Was a bit silly that nobody in the park ran over to the car after it stopped.

Can't remember the former background girls name but I loved the little joke where someone makes a snarky comment about how she finally had something to say.

It was "So you actually do have a personality?" The character is Melissa (I think she was played by the same actress in seasson 2 but I don't remember her speaking there.)

3.4 - The trial scenes were very good, the best stuff of the season so far. I really hate Teen Shauna now. Great acting by Sophie Nelisse though.

So the big death at the end...I'll wait and see how it plays out, but at the moment it feels like they just didn't know what to do with that character after blowing her story in season 2 so killed her off because they had no ideas. Seems like a waste at the moment.

Finally caught up with season 3.

I think it's been clear for a while now that Shauna is capable of terrible acts, in both the past and the present. Both Lynskey and Nelisse do a fab job of making her empathetic.

Ricci continues to be the best thing about the show, and Hanratty does a wonderful job as young Misty.

The hole left by Natalie dying is very noticeable and I'm missing Lewis more than I expected to. It puts more weight on Thatcher's shoulders now she's our only Natalie.

Do we think Lottie was rehearsing to apologise to someone and that someone killed them? Is it Hilary Swank maybe? Who do we think she's playing? Presumably Mari or Melissa?

The trial was well done, surprised nobody raised the fact that Ben saved their lives in the cave. Is he done for or will he somehow escape execution?

Still not sure there's any genuine supernatural force at work, just coincidences they mistake for some higher power.

Wow, just discovered Mari and Travis are dating in real life.

3.5 - Teen Shauna just now completely psychotic and sadistic, wanting to execute an innocent man (okay, some of the others did too) then seemingly getting sexually excited by her girlfriend cutting his Achilles tendon. Then it cuts to the present day scenes and we're supposed to find it amusing watching her and Walter running around doing stupid shit disguised as I.T. workers? It's a bit much.

The reaction to Lottie's death was really weird, like they didn't even care much? I thought Tai and Van would end up thinking The Wild killed her but they didn't even consider it.

I find Misty the only sympathetic present day character now, which is saying something!

I did like Van saying it was on brand for Misty to have killed Lottie then tried to solve the murder she committed!

It is kinda worrying that we're all rooting for Misty now! Again I think the present day has lost something without Natalie

I did like Shauna with Lottie's dad. But yeah teen Shauna has properly gone over the edge, that there are reasons doesn't completely justify it.

Do we think we might see present day Coach at some point? (assuming he survives which is by no means certain!)

Wonder what Tai said to her son to freak him out?

The scene that showed news footage of the survivors arriving home only showed girls and Travis, and defiinitely not a one-legged man...of course they could say Ben was taken straight to hospital or something. Reddit seems to think there were only 8 survivors based on the seance scene in season 1, but it's not been outright said. (Shauna, Natalie, Misty, Taissa, Travis, Van, Lottie and either Melissa or Mari would be 8...but I am still rooting for Ben to somehow have made it too.)

I still couldn't tell you how many initial survivors there were or many of their names! (actually I'm not sure I could accurately tell you how many there were right now).

Be interesting to see whether Hilary Swank is Mari or Melissa because they're going to have radically different relationships to Shauna in the present (although to be fair most of the characters seemed to have forgiven each other for a lot of things that happened in the wild)

Anyone else feel Elijah Wood is being wasted a little now?

Also I wanted to check I'm reading this right. I'm assuming Travis said the wilderness had chosen Akilah just to get Lottie off his back rather than because he saw this in a vision?

That's what I thought too, though he seems to have gotten lucky and she's now having useful visions anyway.

I'm still not sure there's anything remotely supernatural going on at all, though I kinda hope there is.
