Season 3 First Look

They're leaning very much into the different genres every week - I get that, it worked reasonably well before. I am hoping though they've just picked those bits for the trailer because they're promo-friendly and the season has more Trekky stories than the trailer implies in addition to the "fun" for balance across the season.

I get ST has always done the genre-bending to some extent but it should continue to develop its own ST voice as well. Classic ST had the longer seasons to balance out the different types of episode - SNW doesn't. I don't want the majority of episodes in that short run to be "ST does murder mystery, "ST does rom-com" etc etc.
Exactly.

That's an interesting wrinkle, though - somebody claiming to be a transporter duplicate is actually a holo-duplicate, or vice versa.
Not really sure how this would make a difference in an episode script. Contemporary Trek tech would solve any such dilemma before it could become a dramatically-viable plot line.

Ferengi until TNG, but when have SNW writers evere cared about continuity, or the franchise in general).
Nope. They actively hate it and all is fans too. They burn us in effigy before each production meeting.

Spock and Chapel were barely acquaintances in Prime Timeline TOS, much less former fuck buddies
Chapel was not a character. She was a stand in.

Did you not watch TOS? She's confessing her love while under the influence. She's serving him soup. ( which he's agreeable to on the second go round) She's holding his Katra.

Yeah. When I saw that episide for the first time where chapel is giving spock soup I was thinking "yup. They had a relationship and had relations. Its so obvious". I thought that even after he threw it at her. Lol

It was all predicted in the 70s already ;)

"So, you got a new way to piss off the fans today?"
"Yes sir, I do. I figure we release the trailer for SNW today, and show that scene with the TNG holodeck grid in it today. That'll really rile the fans up as they take it out of context."
"Oh, riled up fans taking things out of context are tight!"

It was response to the claim were they barely acquaintances. All the regular characters on TOS were presented as being friends.

They seem more like work friends in TOS with Chapel having a crush on him. Spock always letting her know he can't reciprocate. A prequel back story with them having a very close friendship and huge relationship doesnt really gel. Unless Chapel asks Spock to mind meld her to forget their relationship and Spock purges more emotion before kirk takes charge of the enterprise I dont see how this works.

There are still 5 or 6 years to go. If we have skipped forward to 2261 then we're in the same year that Chapel will decide to marry Roger Korby aren't we?

It will certainly be interesting to see what changes her mind so suddenly. They'd set up the break up and her joining studying at the fellowship, I wonder why the writers chose to reignite the relationship with it on borrowed time.

That's one of the things I don't like about SNW: the Spock/Chapel relationship. It doesn't feel like Spock to me. However, Chapel herself is a big upgrade from that meek lovesick side character from TOS. Overall the female characters are a big upgrade in this show from the original
