Season 3 First Look

It's same armour they've been wearing the entire series when going on dangerous away missions.

He was wearing during the Season 2 cliffhanger that's why he has it on here.
Okay, fair enough. Been a minute since I watched the S2 finale.

Well the first episode of the new season just got 3 minutes shorter for me. I wasn't expecting them to show the whole cold open!

That was pretty good though I thought. Lots of unnecessary spinning, but aside from that it was a nice bite-sized chunk of crisis.

Has a distinct, rough "television action trying to be movie action" vibe to it.

However I like that it still has a distinct logic with goals, actions, consequences to it.
They're outgunned, they do "action stuff" to put a tracker on the badguys to keep track of their abducted people & then try to fuck off as fast as possible, setting up the next steps for the episode.
Compared to e.g. a typical DIS or PIC action scenes, where usually a bunch of mooks show up & got blown to smithereens, but otherwise feels more like an intermission to the story, because it had no bearing on the plot otherwise.

Uhura's head looks a little weird, presumably she's wearing a skullcap/hairpiece to resemble her super short season 1-2 look, and after this episode is gonna have the hair we've seen in other s3 clips and pictures.

Looks to be a fun season. I do hope they pick up the Sybok storyline that was ignored in season 2 though. The episode with the classic feel and the old style phone looks to be a lot of fun.

Is he a storyline? He cameo'd for a scene and that's it. A wink and a nod.

I don't know because they only showed him for like a few seconds. At the time I was assuming that they were setting up that storyline, and more T'Pring in this series isn't a bad thing.

I agree, the Sybok scene didn’t seem like just a one-off cameo at all and more like something they would be following up on. However, I do feel like they might have dropped the idea for some reason. We’ll see what happens. Personally I would have liked them to do something with Sybok.
