What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

She wasn't discovered to be a Cardassian until the back half of her final episode as a crew member, in "STATE OF FLUX".

I do wish they didn't kill her off. She was a great villain. But I do understand the reasons. (Leaving the Kazon behind, showing progress toward the journey home, etc.)
I didn't particularly like the Kazon. They just seemed to be rip-off or diet Klingons to me.

Paramount first licensed Halo and then Special Ops: Lioness to Netflix in certain countries, and previously licensed Yellowstone for worldwide broadcast. Since these are platforms that broadcast these shows in Turkey, they were not added to Netflix in Turkey. I wonder if they will add Star Trek Discovery and Lower Decks to Netflix with all seasons in Turkey and the rest of the world. Of course, many countries, including Turkiye, can license local platforms that they have agreements with.

The Kazon were terrible. Even calling them 'Klingon lite' is an insult to the Klingons.

The Vidiians, on the other hand... excellent villains. Not only the best ones VOY created, but among the very best in the franchise.
Replace the Kazon with the Vidiians from the Start and it'd have been a lot better.

Another thing I dislike about Voyager is all the techno-babble.

All series from TOS to ENT (+PRO) are available in Vietnam. I guessed it was something to do with Netflix being able to retain shows in countries were P+ does not exist.

Up till last month it also had all three Kelvin movies. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the OG (1-10) movies on there though.

So if states = planets and USA) UFP, then the average citizen will be comfortable identifying with either. It will depend on the context. Are they talking to an Andorian or are they visiting Cardassia?
Within the UFP, it would have more Levels to it.

You're part of these levels of ID:
1) The UFP (Or some other Galactic Political Super Union)
2) Member Species
3) Member World
4) Member Planet's Local Nation-State
5) Member Sub-Locale (State/Province)
6) Member City/Town/Village

The thing about "Trek-no-babble" is that IRL has "Techno-Babble".

Every Field, once you get in depth, has terminology & concepts that you as a laymen might not understand.

It takes time & effort to learn about said field for you to even begin processing the Field-Specific Terms.

Doesn't matter if it's Law, Medicine, Tech, Math, AeroSpace, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, etc.

All things in life has deep "Techno-Babble" of some sort.

You just have to start learning and try to understand as much as you can.

That's why education in school is important, the amount of knowledge we need to know keeps on growing as humanity's knowledge keeps on expanding.

Just to have a solid base-line for life requires alot of basic Education up to College level General Ed.

And that only covers surface / cursory knowledge to be able to grasp everything on a surface level.

This is long before you deep-dive into any one field of study.

There are MANY levels to any field of study/knowledge that will take a life-time to learn.

The best you can hope for is that you never get bored of learning and want to constantly keep learning.

All very true. Even as a journeyman manufacturing grunt, I've had jobs that have taught me things like 'optical dB loss' and what a Faraday cage is. I'd wager many to most on here have little to no knowledge of either one without their own specialized work experience or education.

Yup, and the amount of knowledge Rabbit Holes that exist are far greater than what the vast majority of people have time in their lives for.

We only have a very limited amount of time to learn, and our minds are great at absorbing knowledge when they're young.

When we're older, it gets harder to learn, not impossible, but definitely harder.

We do have other advantages as we get older, usually that comes with experience, knowledge, wisdom.

Stuff the younger whipper snappers don't have.

And the Cycle of Life will continue once the Wise Elders teach the next generation through mentor-ship as you pass your knowledge down to the next generation.

Voyager is no less or more egregious in terms of tech talk than any of the other Berman era shows. More so than TOS/TAS and more so than the modern stuff, but no better or worse than TNG/DS9/ENT.

Optical dB loss, sounds to me like the rate of loss of optical signal in a given medium, as measured in decibels.

Please note that in most cases, this refers to optical fibers, but can refer to air gap transmission.

As to optical fiber earlier technologies had a higher rate of loss, per unit distance.

As for a Faraday Cage it is method of isolating a device for testing. By isolating, one can determine the functionality of said device.

Or protect it Corona Mass Ejections, or Electromagnetic Pulses - either a Nuclear event, or a chemical event.

Several years ago now Popular Mechanics Magazine had an article on how to generate an EMP from High Explosive...

It requires a thermos holding a superconducting coil charged with electricity...imploding the magnet will release the field. Short range only. About 2,000 feet in radius.

In terms of time a a Nuclear EMP lasts micro seconds at most. A chemical EMP milliseconds. Which requires a different design.

I am a bookworm.

You may start running now. :guffaw:

Well...I think we all learned something today.
