I know I'm in the minority but I'm satisfied with the death of character. What better way to go out for Kirk, the odds against him, having a fist fight on some god forsaken alien planet. Making a difference one last time.

To be honest I am not sure he is so much a Republican. But I know he complains about things being woke sometimes and he does get into the culture War from time to time. But to be fair he might also just be moderate. I still like the guy either way. It takes more than politics to dislike someone. He is still freaking James T. Kirk. Maybe the greatest tv hero of all-time.
That, but its a 60 minute road trip through space. IDGAF, it would be just about right for an anniversary special. Shatner would be in his element since he gets ALL the lines.
Ive never thought about kirks politics because I dont think he has any. Hes an explorer and a fighter when he needs to be. Thats it. Youre right hes the greatest TV hero of all time. As kids we all looked up to him and his values. TV heroes today always have serious flaws and always seem to be driven to the edge of darkness even murdering. To give a modern trek example Picard and Crusher attempted murder on a unarmed trapped shape shifter. Thats how modern writing is today. Kirk never committed murder as revenge. Not even Kruge in TSFS. He tried to save the klingon that killed his son and only killed him after Kruge tried to pull him dowm into the lava flow. At that point Kirk had no choice. It was the choice of living or dying with a klingon. I cant think of any time that kirk killed out of revenge or fear.

So if shatner does come back as kirk I hope its in the 25th century and not the 32nd. It would be great to see Kirk as an admiral again or even president of earth.

Maybe they could do something where Kirk is brought back, and Shatner deages into Paul Wesley. Will fans hate it with a passion not seen since the debut of Next/Enterprise/Discovery....yes. Is it more realistic than a 95 year-old man committing to anything beyond a cameo...also yes.

Also we saw Indy at 70 in the last movie not 80. I think Ford was 78/79 during filming. He has always been older then Indy in all the films. A lot of people are still Robust at 70......old Indy was not very physical in DOD. I think it's one reason a lot of people did not like the film. Not enough Indy action. So even if they did a 90 year old Kirk I don't think anyone would like it. They were pushing a lot of physical boundaries with Picard in Picard Season 1. Stewart was playing Picard older than himself. 90 I think. A 90 year old being thrown by an explosion the way Picard was would not have survived. I don't care what century it is..
