William Shatner Confirms Talks for Star Trek Return at 93 Years Old

The reality is Shatner is going to be 94 in a few days. He would be almost 95 if they ever got something off the ground. Hate to say it but the time to do this was like 5-10 years ago. Shatner looks and acts way younger but that doesn't mean anything. Things can go wrong health wise so quickly for someone his age. He also doesn't look as robust from even just a couple years ago. The passage of a year at his age is like 10 years physically on a younger person. A year hits harder the older we get.

Shatner said a few months ago that he was finally going to slow down a bit. He deserves it. I hope he sticks to that.

But he went into space not that long ago. I mean I don't think they would give them anything to demanding to do No more fist fights and running or anything for either of them. It would mostly just be them sitting and talking.

Without sounding ageist but I kinda agree.
I love Shatner he's a legend in my book.
But I kinda remember shows like the Simpsons making fun of the TOS cast age back in the day.

Also there's suspension of disbelief. We have Indianna Jones at 80.
The stunts he does in that movie would of put any old age pensioner into hospital.

Or Roger Moore, he was 57 in his last Bond film.
The age difference between Roger Moore and the young bond girl in a view to a kill is 28 years.
It became obvious that he had become too old to play that character for obvious reasons.

Problem is a lot of these films don't acknowledge these characters have aged and often have them doing stuff they shouldn't able to do anymore.

So unless he's playing Kirk that reflects he's in his 90's, if they can write the character being back from the dead too.
As I say I love Shatner. The man went to space for real!

I agree.

Also we saw Indy at 70 in the last movie not 80. I think Ford was 78/79 during filming. He has always been older then Indy in all the films. A lot of people are still Robust at 70... 😆...old Indy was not very physical in DOD. I think it's one reason a lot of people did not like the film. Not enough Indy action. So even if they did a 90 year old Kirk I don't think anyone would like it. They were pushing a lot of physical boundaries with Picard in Picard Season 1. Stewart was playing Picard older than himself. 90 I think. A 90 year old being thrown by an explosion the way Picard was would not have survived. I don't care what century it is.. 😂

Well someday he will return via AI and it will likely be made in some kids bedroom and it will look amazing and soon you will have millions of little AI Hollywood studios putting out tons of AI content, which will be new old versions of every tv show or movie you ever seen.

Travis, who? Was he a character in one of the books? I haven't read all of them.
The helmsman character from Enterprise ;)

Really? Did not know that. It certainly wasn't as bad as Roger Moore was during his last 007 films, and it was very obvious when you could tell it was his stuntman. Or snogging girls 28 years younger than himself.

True, but don't mean to be dismissive of my elders. And I hope I'm robust myself if I'll get to that age.

I have skied all my life on and off. Last year I was skiing in Austria, hadn't skied in over a decade. A combination of my age and being out of practice meant I wasn't as good as I was when I was in my mid twenties. We all fall victim to age despite how hard we try.

Everything you said is true. But it's also been shown that keeping busy increases longevity/staves off dementia etc. Maybe this mini-whatever might be the boost that Shatner's health could use at his age.

Well he does keep very busy for a 94 year old. He probably has more projects going on than most people 70 years younger. I just don't think playing Kirk should be be considered now. It would probably result in being a big disappointment to Kirk fans like Dial Of Destiny was for many Indy fans. I use to think it was ok seeing aging action stars. But I'm thinking it should not go beyond the 70's at this point and that is pushing it..

My thinking is that whatever pitch or idea that's being floated to Shatner is going to be in line with the Unification short film, taking the Daystrom Station reference and going from that. Maybe not using Mitchell and Colt, but something that has to do with Project Phoenix - maybe in the 32nd Century, with Starfleet in rebuilding mode, they realize that someone from the Golden Era of exploration can be revived to help guide them in going back to exploration?

It then makes Kirk the focal point, doesn't require him to be doing stunts, ties up the scene in Daystrom and can resolve the bad decision Shatner made to kill his character off in Generations!

Haha. Tell me about it. I'm in very good shape for my age. Most people don't think I look my current age. But time has definitely caught up. I used to swing/jump over ten steps when using a stairwell. I tried that a few days ago to see if I was still as agile. I will tell you it hurt and I almost fell forward not for the wall in front of me. 😂....but I still did it by gum.... 😂

I think Tom Baker's appearance in Dr. Who some years back is probably the model on how you have a return from an aging actor into an iconic role. Short, just right, where the elder actor's appearance is a gift to fans but at the same time doesn't get into absurd action roles or takes away from the current franchise stars (basically the 4th Doctor/Curator just gave the 11th Doctor a meaningful pep talk, but it wasn't anything absurd like him fighting an army of Daleks or anything)

But see Doctor who rarely gets physical except maybe running....he always has his sonic screwdriver... 😉 😂......Kirk always getting into fisticuffs. I'm not sure shatner would not do a short cameo anyhow..

The plot and dialogue of Dial of Destiny is what turned off a lot of Indy fans, not his age. We WANTED to see him kick ass one more time, even if it was UNBELIEVABLE. We DID NOT want to see him sad and depressed, losing his wife and son, being talked down to and wanting to die. Something like him, Short Round and Mutt going on a funny adventure together, bickering the whole time (a nod to the father/son stuff in Crusade, a case from the past with Short Round maybe) with some funny lines and cool-but-over-the-top-unbelievable action scenes was all we wanted.

That's what i mean. No one wants to see a 90+ year old Kirk either.... if they do they will be disappointed by the results. 😂

No, thats the opposite of what I said.

If you don't write the character like crap, it will be great, even if it is unbelievable.

Dial's script trashed Indy/the movie, not Harrison's age.

I think him and Stewart even get along from what I understand. Now maybe politics has soured that today since Shatner is a Republicans and Stewart is a Democrat but maybe not.
While it is true Shatner and Stewart maintained a friendship after Generations, your sentence about their political affiliations is not at all accurate and I think you're confusing things. It sounds like you're referring to a 2015 interview where Ted Cruz said he believes "Captain Kirk is Republican and Captain Picard is Democrat." However, Shatner took issue with this statement saying that neither Star Trek nor he himself are political. Also, Shatner is not eligible to vote in the US and therefore can not be a Republican or be involved with any political party in the US. Stewart meanwhile is a member of Britain's Labour party, which is that country's leading left wing party but is not a 1:1 comparison to the Democrat party in the US.
