My standard is generally blu-ray, though I've gotten more into 4K UHD disks especially with newer releases. If a movie has a lot of scenes in the dark, then 4K will look much better than blu-ray because of the color timing or whatever.

DVD looks like garbage on a modern TV, so I will only buy something on DVD if it is not available on blu-ray or HD digital download.

I can't even remember the last time I bought a standalone title on DVD. My collection of Blu-Rays is about 200 or so, not huge by any means...and as for 4K, it's mostly a few box sets like Back to the Future, The Karate Kid, The Matrix, and the first six Mission: Impossible entries.

I mostly buy Blu-ray and 4K, though I'm not opposed to buying DVDs. There are some movies that haven't been released on anything other than a DVD. Then there are times where I'll see a DVD collection of various movies (based around an actor, a genre, a studio company, etc) and will buy that.

I have been buying more 4K, but I save that for movies that I truly love because they are so expensive. Otherwise, Blu-Ray discs work fine.

I don't buy as many as I used to mainly due to running out of space and having to box some movies and box sets up, but if it's a movie or TV show that I love and know I'll watch multiple times I will buy it, so I know I have access to it. I don't trust streaming since it has been shown again and again that they will remove shows and that just because I "buy" a movie or TV show in Amazon, iTunes, Vudu, etc. doesn't mean I truly own it.

Got Constataine, Gladiator II and the latest Lord of the Rings film in the mail yesterday. Should be a fun watch all of them

About to start watching the Expanse boxed set.
I was recommended the anime Perfect Blue, so I went looking for it. Amazon has it to stream for $3.99. My favorite *ahem* free streaming site has it, but without subtitles. Ya know what? The Blue ray is only 20 bucks. It arrives tomorrow.

Kraven comes to Netflix soon, and that's one film I'm happy to stream and not care about having on disc.

I just renewed my Netflix subscription late last night and noticed that the Kraven movie is arriving next week. dang lol.

Netflix getting their hands on movies that are still in theaters and/or barely released for DVD, Blu ray yet. sheesh

Amazon does that too, but they charge 20 bucks (ish) to watch them!
I got a mediocre download of Kraven, but I guess I'll wait for Netflix, it'll certainly be better quality.

I'm not throwing out disc media. I'm also not collecting any more either. I do copy files on physical media, when I can, like a HDD, and rewatch using vlc media player.

Just got my Brutalist 4K in the mail and placed a preorder for Tombstone 4K. Wasn't expecting the latter. Criterion still surprises me with titles like Bound, One False Move and Lone Star, and now Sorcerer is upcoming.

I feel that. I did a quick purge of my DVDs/BluRays yesterday. Anything I absolutely know I will never watch again went into the garage sale pile. It wasn't as much as I thought it would be, but I had some real clunkers (to me, anyway) on my shelves.

Yeah, I'm going thru my anime shelves in my retirement, and coming up with a lot of "what the hell did I buy THAT for??"

Same. My last move, I went through and got rid of a lot of CDs/DVDs that I no longer listened to or watched. I'm starting to do a second round of purging. If I did it with my books, I could condense three shelves down to two. It really all comes down to sentimental reasons.
At the same time, I just purchased my first Blu-ray in probably a year or so, and that was Criterion 'Godzilla vs. Biollante'.

Still collect them as I don't have internet access, and therefore streaming services. Plus, I like collecting DVD's/Blu Ray/4K, but I don't collect them as often as I used to. Thank goodness I have stores like Half Price Books, Vintage Stock/VStock, and Barnes & Noble near me that sell both new and used DVD's/Blu Ray/4K.

On the "con" side, I'm 67 years old. I started thinking recently that there might not be a point in buying EVERYthing I like - I might croak before I feel like watching it again. maybe just the really important stuff.
I'm the other way around. Any time something is a little pricey, I figure "I may as well buy it, I won't need the money if I die soon so I may as well enjoy it now." ;)

Yeah I still collect both DVD and Blu Ray. I prefer hard copies to streaming. I like to rewatch stuff every now and then, and you never know when a streaming service will remove a show.

if i still had my tape collection (not lost voluntarily) i wouldn't be struggling to put together a val kilmer tribute marathon thing... i do have most of my *dvd/bluray* collection, although i really should have saved other stuff, but i never really did that thing where you buy the stuff you had for 15 or 20 years on one format, on the new formats...

i just got the foster's home collection. is very annoying cuz it has a combination of the thing where it holds the discs too well, and the disk slats are on a thing separate from the case, so it's hard to get the leverage or whatever to get them out properly... have several new (old) anime to watch...

I just bought another 4K disc - 1998's The Prince of Egypt. I love it for several reasons, far too many to list here. I have some minor gripes with certain departures from Scripture, but that's to be expected with any adaptation. Val Kilmer was perfect for Moses, and so much of the supporting cast was brilliant too. I don't think I'd even heard of Ralph Fiennes prior to this movie, but his portrayal of Ramses as a surrogate brother feeling betrayed was very powerful.
