yes I still buy movies and tv shows for DVD.

this past Tuesday I just bought the DVD of the animated Spawn tv show that was on HBO back in the mid late 1990s. I kind of missed out on the rest of the show at the time. all I remember about the show is that Todd would always do those silly darkly lit room narratives to start the episodes or after

I still collect DVD but also have a few blurays of the odd film or show that you can't get on DVD.

Currently looking for an easy no fuss way to back up my DVDs onto hard drives. Used to use DVD Decrypter but that's no longer reliable in Windows 11

There's a buy 2, get 1 free sale this week at Target for movies, music, books and Funko (but not everything qualifies). You can mix and match. Amazon always copies the sale but it's not quite the same.

So Amazon just sent me a “new” Blu-ray that was in an oversized plastic bag, sealed with a barcode sticker and labeled “Ready to Ship.” Inside the bag was the disc set, with no factory shrink wrap, clearly not new, probably a return.

It is going right back for a replacement, and if I ever get anything like this from them again, it will probably be the last time I purchase media from Amazon.

Third party stuff is dicey. You should have seen the copy I got of Disney's Dinosaur once. Despite being listed as new, that mofo was the most second-hand disc I've ever seen. It honestly looked like it had been left out in the rain for a few days, then chucked under a table somewhere to dry off for six weeks, and then finally thrown in a paper mailer to scrape its way to l'il ol' me.

For those of us in the U.S., Barnes & Noble is in the middle of their semi-annual Criterion Collection sale, 50% off all titles. Started on June 27th, and runs thru July 27th.

I picked up Anora and Godzilla vs. Biollante; hopefully if the latter sells well, we'll be seeing more Heisei-era Godzilla films getting remastered and re-released.

I wait until Criterion has their own 50% sale because they don't charge me tax, but I don't know if that's the case for all the states.

B&N only charges the sales tax that's appropriate in your state based on your billing address, so if you lived somewhere like Delaware with no sales tax, they shouldn't be charging you any either.

I'm in a heavily-taxed state, so buying stuff online from out-of-state businesses was great until the government put an end to that. But some places like Criterion still don't charge me tax.

I haven't been to a Barnes & Noble store in almost ten years. There's one in Conroe about 20 minutes' away by car, but I don't drive and Amazon Prime delivers in 2 days, so I don't bother.
