Watching the trailer again and I got to thinking that Julia Louis-Dreyfus speech comes at the end of the movie and she introduces the Thunderbolts (or whatever their name might be) to the panel.

The grasping at straws re: Taskmaster is now spreading like a weed, and it's quite frankly sad and embarrassing.

On other fronts, I finished a first-time watch of The Falcon & The Winter Soldier last night, and I'm even more excited for Brave New World than I was before.

Highlights for me personally:
* Sharon Carter being the Power Broker; having her secretly become an international Queenpin of crime and smuggling was a brilliant narrative choice, and Emily VanCamp slayed the duplicity of the character

* John Walker; I'm probably the only person out there who doesn't hate the character; Wyatt Russell did a really good job of being antagonistic without being villainous, and I'm excited to see him return in Thunderbolts*

* Bucky; I still find it weird that the fact that he'd been dosed with the Super Soldier Serum was apparently surprising to some people because I personally thought it was obvious from the moment he returned as the Winter Soldier back in Phase 2, but 'whatever'; I do really want to know how he ends up on Valentina's radar and ends up being recruited to join her Thunderbolts team, so hopefully that movie will answer those questions

* Sam's speech to the GRC; apparently there's criticism of it online, hut I can't figure out why; I was also reminded of the speeches to the U.N. that we get from T'Challa in Black Panther and Ramonda in Wakanda Forever, which is neat since the Wakandans are the ones who made his Captain America flightsuit

Shifting topics, I'm still slowly working my way through The Defenders Saga, but I've also decided to simultaneously keep watching some of the Marvel Studios/Marvel Television Phase 4+ series, with the next up being Loki.

I like Walker as well. What makes him interesting is he doesn't have what it takes to be Captain America yet he is not a villain. He does have a sense of honor but to be Captain America you have to be on a whole other level when it comes to your behavior. As for the speech it was just a bad speech. The show in general was actually pretty good in how it explored issues of race. Everything from him not being able to get a loan to the Isaiah Bradley stuff was done pretty well. The speech was just a little to "After school special."

A few clickbait sites have come up with the notion that Taskmaster not really being seen in the trailer(s) means that she's going to die, which is as desperately reaching as the idea that Marvel Studios is 'hiding' her.
Someone's gotta be the dead meat. Ghost and TM seem likely. Walker or RG as well. Bucky and Yelena are pretty safe. Bucky might get it though, since he's OG MCU. A big stakes death.

For me the thing that makes me most consider it has less to do with them not having her much in the adds but that we don't even see her with the mask off from what I recall. Even Ghost we have seen with her helmet not on. Now I don't think they see this as a huge issue to worry about. If they were terrified they could have just did reshoots and remove the character from the movie all together. But at the same time why offer the online sites ammo for a character they will be killing off early anyways. Maybe they wouldn't have been so afraid in the past but the political climate in the world has changed since then. M.C.U has had some issues of getting people to watch their movies more than they use to before Endgame. Speaking of which if they do kill the character off early that will also just create more controversial stuff to deal with because now people on the left will claim they are just pandering to the MAGA crowd. Either way they will likely take some shit from one side or another but if the movie is actually good none of it will matter because quality always wins out in the end when it comes to this stuff.

Can't kill to many people. I think they will want a sequel if it does well at the box office. I think Bucky,Yelena and Red Guardian are the safe bets. Maybe Walker just because the character is to interesting to just kill off.

Maybe one.

I think they will at least go with 3. Taskmaster,Ghost and Val. I am also making a prediction. We will see Zemo in a post credit scene. The tease that he will be in a second movie if they make it.

No one automatically needs to die. Despite what a lot of casual viewers have apparently been told, the Thunderbolts are not the same kind of team as the Suicide Squad.

That's true but this villain I understand is one of the most powerful ones in the MCU. It's hard to make him seem that powerful if only extras are killed.

How many Guardians died in Vol. III? Or in Vol. II? Or Avengers in the first Avengers film?

There are more people in the film than just the heroes, the villain and extras. And the villain is likely more complicated than just 'super powerful bad guy', anyway. His appeal is going to come more from characterization than pure power displays.

‘AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY’ begins filming next month.

source: an article on the warp

Is it just me, or is filming beginning only 14 months before release pretty aggressive, given the amount of CGI involved?

Maybe they're just using a shit-ton of pre-vis.

If they use the volume for anything, then that certainly would push a lot of effects work into pre-production. Even if that's the case though; I highly doubt that release date will hold. I think there's been enough push-back over rushed VFX in recent years that they'll want to make sure they don't fumble the first new Avengers movie in seven years.

Considering that Fantastic Four will be released in July, the fact that the shooting was completed in December and the first trailer was released in February makes me wonder if the same thing will happen to the Avengers movies?

To each their own. I know nothing of that history (other than enjoying a couple of their songs) and I simply enjoyed the use of this song for this trailer.

Concurrent is a thought I have had for awhile, which would explain Bucky's absence at Sam's side in Brave New World. If that's the case, will it be addressed in some manner without giving anything away from Thunderbolts*? The conflicting reports about whether or not Harrison Ford will be in Thunderbolts* is also a curious point, which is something I've brought up in this thread several times now.

At this point, Thunderbolts and especially your point about Bucky not being with Cap almost hard sells the two films' events occurring simultaneously, which would be interesting, if someone in Thunderbolts takes notice of the "war" referred to in the Brave New World trailer, and where they stand with it.

Most people had never heard of Taskmaster before Black Widow, much less that the character was a man in the comics.

Agreed. Unless one is a longtime comic book reader, or a younger one interested in taking deep historical dives into old issues, "Taskmaster" would draw a blank with many.

Brave new world is allegedly doing better in presales in China than Deadpool 3

Interesting if true.

Pre-2008, I could name less than 5 each of Marvel heroes and villains (excluding the X-Men, and only due to the '90s cartoon). I wasn't exactly young then at 34, but not well-versed in comic book lore outside of movies and cartoons. Even now, whenever a "new" character shows up in the MCU, I have to search around and figure out why I should care about this character. Don't get me wrong, the MCU is fun and entertaining, but it's seriously straining my interest (not to mention my suspension of disbelief).
