Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Here's some pics and a review on my previously dormant tumblr blog.

Td;lr - aside from a couple of minor issues I mentioned, it's a really nice model and overall better quality than the Eaglemoss equivalents. Definitely the best die-cast model of this ship.
Thanks for sharing, those pictures give a great impression of the model.
Almost tempts me.

Also, a blast from the past seeing Tumblr again after so many years.

The deco designers must not have realized that hatch isn’t symmetrical, it’s only on the port side.

The one that’s driving me nuts is the extra layer of azetcking around the bridge.

There’s a popularly circulating post on Tumblr about how people keep saying Tumblr is dead, especially on screenshots of posts that were made, like , a week earlier.

That model is also messing the lounge windows on the rear starboard side of the saucer.

I didn't even realize the ship was asymmetrical until STO revamped its 3D model to add those details lmao.

CC was charged today for $90ish, but I can't recall what XL ship they were releasing for issue #4. I am assuming it's the Enterprise F?

Fanhome website confirms - Issues 4, 8, 12, 16, are XL and #4 is the Enterprise F. Never really cared much for the STO design, but I can live with it, especially considering it made it's way to the screen in Picard.

Interesting bit, with regards to the Star Trek Collection, Fanhome website posted that "Due to higher than expected sales, subscriptions are temporarily unavailable until March 2025."

Sounds like it is a hit for Fanhome, and they are learning from Eaglemoss/HeroCollector mistakes. Hopefully this carries through to the distribution side of things as well. My OCD will go bonkers if they start sending things out of order, items routinely missing due to higher than expected demand, etc.

But so far? So good.

Eaglemoss was largely fine until they started selling the ships individually, that's when those problems seemed to start for subscribers. Seems like Fanhome has learned that lesson (for now anyway).

Master Replicas will release Ra's Pyramid Ship from Stargate. I didn't consider that they have the rights to the movie.

30x20cm, £119, shipping in July.

It’s a gorgeous piece (far and away the best they’ve done for Stargate, even putting aside the deeply flawed Jumper and SG-1 and SGA gate models), and the main ship I was hoping for from their line but, whew, at twice the price of the rest of the line (which was already twice the price of the standard Trek ships or character figures), I think this is going to be a special treat in a few years.

That it's made from polyresin makes me want to classify it more as a "statue" than a "model".

I'm quite surprised they did the fully opened version of the pyramid ship. Closed or partially opened probably would have been easier to manufacture.

Our model of the Pyramid was sculpted by Ed Giddings with careful reference to the original model that was used to film the visual effects in the movie.

It certainly looks much better than his old Death Glider and Milky Way gate models! (Seriously, why did Eaglemoss use those?) All those hieroglyph details are beautiful. But did he get the proportions exactly right? The "tip" looks kind of small to me. Also (nitpicking here) it doesn't seem to be based on the most detailed partial miniature (?).

I've preordered it quickly before I could change my mind. For me at home, it can work both as a Stargate display piece and part of a LEGO Adventurers deco.

According to lore, this is a Cheops-class warship.

It's hard to tell, but it looks like one face of the upper structure has an extra detail over the medallion that could be that cobra. Might just be a shadow or reflection.

The Corgi refit bridge looks a tad more like Reliant bridge modification.
Wait, you’re telling me that after 40 years there was a difference I never noticed? I suppose that could be because every blueprint artist over that time assumed they were exactly the same.

So an accident has led to a pleasant surprise.

Last night I tripped over a pair of shoes and slammed into a shelf with a bunch of ships. All the ships themselves are ok but the plastic part of the stands broke for 3 ships. The regular sized NX-01, the Bonaventure and the nu-Stargazer.

I have a spare for the Bonaventure (long story). But I have to glue the NX-01 and nu-Stargazer. So as a stop gap to keep the ships on display while the glue cures I dug thru the bases for ships I don’t have on display.

Nothing fit the NX-01. But the stand for the TMP Klingon Battlecruiser fit the nu-Stargazer pretty well, in fact I like the way it looks so much I may just keep it in place since I’ve been less than impressed at how the Fanhome bases fit.

Now that you mention it, I noticed that trend with a lot of the later Eaglemoss' stands as well. XL Cerritos being top of my list.

Hot damn, Ra’s pyramid ship looks gorgeous and intricately detailed. Would love to study all those hieroglyphs up close. But whoa, I don’t think I could fit this anywhere in my collection. The price makes sense at that size and level of detail, and if there was ever a Stargate ship I would have wanted to own as a model it’s this one, but I don’t think I should shell out this much money for a model right now. :(

By the way, the images unfortunately don’t show this, but the underside/inside should be hollow, shouldn’t it? Because in the movie the ship is put snugly over a regular Egyptian pyramid, IIRC.

EDIT: Now I almost wish I hadn’t seen this, because I'm actively contemplating whether to get this or not.
