Game The Most Disliked Seventh Season Episode, 2025 Edition

There're some fantastic bits & bobs in DS9's final season, but I find the ongoing war storyline too miserable and far too much like what's happening in the world today to enjoy it anymore. But there is at least one episode that doesn't take itself too seriously (although, Sisko's questions/apprehensions about the race aspect still stand) - DS9: "Badda-bing, Badda-bang".

I used to find Sisko's issues with Vic's lounge odd, too. Until I realized he actually remembers some of that era because of his Benny Russell visions. I'm sure that left an impression on him.

Saving "ONCE MORE UNTO THE BREACH".

An excellent story about the ravages of old age. And John Colicos, as always, delivered a magnificent performance.

Great Martok story, too. I like how, in the end, he will toast Kor, BUT will not sing. His forgiveness cam only go so far in so short a time, which is quite believable.

Kor going out like he did... a perfect end for the Dahar Master. (Whenever possible, when this appears on screen, I raise a glass/bottle/whatever to Kor at the end.)

Qapla'!

"Thine Own Self" is one of those "non-special" episodes that I feel really overperforms, and is kind of underrated. Data and that little girl is so fun, I love the way they represent that alien society, particularly the female teacher character. And a great Troi B-story.

And I always love when the leads get benched to let the supporting cast shine, and I think we don't see Picard at all in this one till he shows up in the final scene for a single random line.

~ Ah, that was going to be my next save - mainly for Troi's promotion (and Data calling her "Sir").

Instead, I'll save DS9: "Shadows And Symbols". Ezri Dax is introduced, and Kira commands a fleet of Bajoran ships in a stand off with the Romulans - what's not to love?

Season definitely felt like a revived show when its high concept ideas, worthy of seasons 2 and 3, made a welcome return to the series:

TNG: "Phantasms"

There are a couple of nitpicks, like why they got the new conduit and new warp core from two different outlets, but the mystery and pacing really keep this one going along with the high concept weirdness of seeing Data psychotic from his own point of view (e.g. the dagger on troi to kill phased organisms slowly feeding on her being one example, along with the phone with unlimited Data plan, Beverly's brainy moment, misunderstanding misunderstood Freud, etc, the episode is loaded with great little goodies.) It's another season 7 TNG entry that reminds how space is a dangerous place, where some problems are caused by accident or happenstance when not by some nasty malignant entity shimmering outside the ship. (Genesis, Thine Own Self, and others are absolute gems.)

Ah, that was going to be my next save - mainly for Troi's promotion (and Data calling her "Sir").
That's what I hated most about that episode. Deanna got a third pip for taking a dozen tries to kill a hologram of Geordi LaForge. Data was still LCDR after saving Earth from the Borg, AND the Federation from the Duras/Romulan alliance. He had more command chops in his posititronic bum than she had in her whole body

Be that as it may, saving "Field of Fire" for its great story, the creepy portrayal of Joran, and a really cool new gun.

Saving "Masks".

I LOVE this one! Superb atmosphere, great concept, excellent acting from Spiner, and a rare use of Picard's archaeology hobby.

I love mythology based episodes! One of the very best of TNG season 7... easily a top 5!

I saved "Take Me Out To The Holosuite" in a previous game and I'm saving it here for the same reasons. It's a fun episode and the DS9 team have a far more positive experience in "taking part" than the Vulcans do in "winning".

This time, I am saving one of those much-hated episodes that I just happen to like. "The Emperor's new Cloak" has a daft plot and was one visit too many to the MU. Now, I'm not an Ezri fan but this episode gave her a part where she behaved like an adult, in control, in command. Nice to see one of the Ferengi not just played for laughs - I felt a lot of sympathy for nice-guy Brunt. Finally, all the women of DS9, lesbians? And it's considered normal and not worthy of comment? What's not to like about that?

Getting harder and harder to find good ones, but I'll give "Lineage" a nod. B'Elanna isn't my favorite VOY character, but this episode gave us an understanding of her motivations, and her past pain. And I enjoyed the reaction of the crew to the news.

~ Yes, Data's static rank considering his accomplishments over the course of the series is peculiar.

This time, I am saving one of those much-hated episodes that I just happen to like. "The Emperor's new Cloak" has a daft plot and was one visit too many to the MU.
~ I love this ep for its absolute ridiculousness and over-the-top characterisations. Michael Dorn looked like he was having far too much fun as Emperor Worf!

I don't often save a VOY episode over anything else, but I really enjoyed the concept of "Shattered" and that it utilised Chakotay. The best bit, imo though, is when Seven barges into Engineering in full Borg get-up to save Janeway from Seska. The look on Seska's face is priceless!

Definitely aimed at the kids in the audience, but...

VOY: "The Void"

Definitely has Star Trek written all over it, yet not feeling as worn out as it otherwise might have.

VOY: "Workforce, Part I" On a planet without enough suitably trained workers, they steal crew members of Voyager and suppress their memories of their past lives. I didn't think I'd like the two part episodes as much as I did.

Despite it's unusually awful title, "The Changing Face Of Evil" is probably my second favorite piece of the final DS9 arc. Damar's turn is incredible. The attack on Earth is very impactful and well used. The only real blemish is that this is where they begin to fumble Winn & Dukat, though that's really only apparent in hindsight.

I can't keep this repressed anymore:

VOY: "Q2"

Yeah, there's a lot of strange continuity lapses and revealing the show is burnt out, but it's not without moments of hilarity as well as Q teaching kidQ a neat lesson. That said, the Q Tribunal using 21st century judge outfits makes zero sense, unless this were Picard and not Janeway. Earth had more time periods to show the "relational" element from, so why sew up three of the same design from 1987?

(That takes me back to all the bars I didn't go to... Why they didn't license 2 Unlimited's "Workaholic", I will never know... Torres easily has the best line in the bit and the show missed an opportunity to change warp chamber color based on speed or other condition. But if it did that, Torres' line wouldn't make sense. Then again, a lot of this episode doesn't but that's still oddly okay...)

(After the Kirk Kirk Kirk Kirk Kirk Kirk Kirk Kirk Kirk Kirk Kirk Kirk Kirk Kirk Kirk Kirk Kirk Kirk Kirk Kirk Kirk Kirk Kirk Kirk Kirk Kirk bit, it gets quite good - amazing because, by this time in the franchise, every time the "K" word was said, it was eye-rollin' time as it's a cheap callback for the memberberriez. But, yeah, the acting in this episode is rather lovely as well. I could never skip a Q episode, apart from DS9's as even VOY has more of a purpose for the seventeenth letter of our alphabet... So like the giant mutated puppet bird in the trash can might say, this post is developed by the letter "Q" and the number "17".)

(How human, but it's fun. Especially if said punishment, thanks to dietary differences between species, would be toxic to the alien but be sweeter than ice cream to humans, ha!! )

Saving Gambit part 1. When you get past the question of why Starfleet officers are involved in this whole affair, it's actually a pretty decent caper episode.
