Ways that SNW actually improved TOS

IIRC, they were often outpowered by those they met. Almost all the TrekTech was presented as new. Especially phase weapons and transporters. No shields or tractor beams on the NX-01.
This.

The NX-01 took an absolute beating throughout the series and was rarely the superior vessel in any engagement. That's one of the things Enterprise got right and one of the things I genuinely loved about the series.

Even better was that when it got badly damaged, it stayed damaged, but she kept going. The NX-01 was always the underdog, but she's the most tenacious little Starship we've ever seen in the entire franchise.

The scene at the beginning of season 4, when she finally gets back to Earth, beat to holy hell but still functional, always brings a tear to my eye.

Which is what Voyager should have been like IMO

Voyager by the time it got home should have looked like the Enterprise from ESquared. Just a hodgepodge of technology and on the fly repairs.

But yeah that would have been expensive, since they'd have to create new establishing shots every time the ship was modified.

Yeah, I've long maintained that the pristine condition of Voyager throughout the series is one of the shows many shortcomings. I had hoped that maybe by later seasons, with the expanded use of CGI, they may have had the ship start to show a little wear and tear.

Nope.

Ironically, ENT showed us Starfleet ships were sturdier than their 24th century counterparts.

Enterprise lost only ONE shuttlepod in its entire 4 year run... and that was blown up, internally, on purpose while it was on the ground. Chakotay by himself lost 4 times as many shuttles, never mind how many other people lost.

DS9's runabouts? Yangtzee Kiang, Ganges, Mekong, Orinoco, Yukon, and others, all gone. Hell, only the Rio Grande survived all 7 years.

TNG? They went through a number of them, too.

The phrase 'not built like it used to be' is true with so many things in life... and in fiction.

I think Pike said it best.

A lot of tech on the NX-01 were basically renames of later tech when it came to dialogue. Hull plating replaced shields in dialogue for example. complete with percentages???

But introducing photon torpedoes in ENT made it so they were using the same tech in the 2150's as the 2360's. 210 years ago, we were using single-shot Brown Bess muskets.
So we were using guns and 210 later still using guns. Better guns, but guns none the less.

The Navy has used devices called "torpedoes" for centuries. The modern torpedo can be traced to the 1860s

And? How many years have we been using gun powder to to fire bits of metal at eachother? Photon Torpedo is just a fancy word for an Antimatter Warhead. You can look at the advent of antimatter as a weapon being similar to the use of gun powder. Yes, the power of the weapons increase over the years, but the basics remain the same for generations.

it hasn't, it doesn't and it won't.

watching as a rewritten 23rd, its passable. watching as a rebooted 23rd, its fine.
