Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Some of us have a package that is still stuck in a temporal anomaly in Kansas City. Hoping it moves before the end of 2024 at least, but I'm guessing that depends on the degree of time dilation from my location on the east coast and Missouri.

On the plus side, I'll have space next to the lower decks ship and Tom Paris plate to squeeze in a few fanhome ships, Stargazer included. :techman:

Funny enough, USPS delivered it early. It was waiting for me today when I got back from running some errands. It did fall inside the 14 business day delivery window they told me it would if you factor in no movement for Christmas Day.

It’s a nice looking model, was expecting it to be a bit wider though. I think they went a bit heavy on the grey wash. It caused a paint smuge on the bottom of the saucer where it says “Stargazer” instead I got “Starg” with the rest missing.

Except for that I’m happy with it. And so ends my subscription. Only single buys going forward.

I’m always curious how others are displaying and storing their collection. Have most of you all of the models out at the same time? Did you keep the boxes or throw them away like some did? Did you already sell some of your models or do you still have all of them?
~ I've only got eleven Eaglemoss starship models (mostly my favourite designs), but only seven are currently on display - I need to have a sort out of all the junk that's cluttering my shelves up as I could easily display them all. I rotate the models in and out of their boxes to display them (I've kept the boxes - you can see some of them in the second photo).

Here we have the ringship Enterprise XCV-330, the Norway-class USS Budapest (I love it because its so weird!), the adorable little Oberth-class USS Grissom, and Matt Jefferies concept TOS shuttle. Oh, and Gracie

(she's not from Eaglemoss).

And here we have the gorgeous and intricate V'ger, the Disco Klingon Bird-of-Prey (it's like some gothic cathedral in space!), and the Disco Enterprise (which I won in a fan art challenge - thank you, @Michael!).

Not pictured, the super-cool and totally awesome Akira-class USS Thunderchild (the first little ship I bought, as I recall), the Excelsior-class USS Enterprise-B, the stately Olympic-class USS Pasteur, and the Vesta-class USS Aventine.

I'd love to get a Cerritos someday - preferably a big one - and if Fanhome ever do them, the Archimedes (Obena-class) and Intrepid (Duderstadt-class).

The only box I kept was for the Ringship Enterprise. It’s possibly the most fragile of all the ships …
The ringship is definitely one of the more fragile ones, for sure. Although I would say the Bajoran Solar-Sailor is even more fragile. Oh, and those super thin, spindly nacelles on the Enterprise-J, which seem like they might snap if you looked at them the wrong way.

I'm happy to see the Cerritos out on display (and the Nog). Was that a deliberate choice to link in with the final season of LDS?
Yeah, I’m so damn happy I finally was able to get the Cerritos after not getting the one I originally ordered from Eaglemoss right before they filed for bankruptcy.

And no, there’s no real significance in displaying the Nog next to it. I just really really like the future Federation designs they came up with for Discovery. And this one specifically because it has just the right name. ;)

Thanks for taking the excellent photos of your collection, @Cyfa! A really nice assortment of designs. And I think I have all of them as well, except for the Klingon Bird-of-Prey from Discovery and the Aventine, which for some reason never really clicked with me all that much from a design point of view.

By the way, I think the boxes make for a nice backdrop for displaying the models in front of them.

And here we have the gorgeous and intricate V'ger …
Yes! One of the most interesting models from the entire collection. It photographs so well! I’m just going to quote myself from over five years ago …

I love that they modeled it with an open maw, and from a distance it looks cool, but I'm kind disappointed at how shallow it is. Making it a little deeper would have gone ways of selling the idea …

Are the windows aligned?

Sadly for the most part no. There are a few that are but 98% are just a hair off.

Also, the base is a piece of shit, just like the one for the Titan. The post doesn’t fit quite right and it’s not snug enough so the ship dips nose down. Gonna have to trim it a bit and either glue it or use some double sided tape.

When I had the Ringship on display that centerpiece shook so much when anyone would walk by or move it that I ended up just boxing it up out of fear of it breaking and for piece of mind.

The Stargazer arrived last week after being freed from the Tholian web that was constructed in Kentucky sometime in December. Sadly, it did not honor the anniversary of Generation's Enterprise-B debut by arriving on a Tuesday, but it is what it is. Ill upload some pictures shortly. Very happy with her, and stacking her with the Titan box ship profiles looks pretty good. Comparing and contrasting the models, I like the similar nacelle design, but contrasting color of the Titan's orange bussard collectors to the Stargazer's red bussard collectors. Were they different colors on the show? I'll have to look.

In the meantime, I was checking out the Fanhome website because I couldn't remember which ship issue three was. Looks like it is the Farragut as many have mentioned before, but also looks like we get two subscriber gifts with it. One is a binder which should be familiar to those who collected Eaglemoss before. The second is a metal coffee mug with a logo that is reportedly something to do with Guinan's bar in Picard? I'll have to resesarch that one more before she gets here.

The Corgi refit Enterprise has been unveiled - looks significantly better than the Eaglemoss version. Although at 21cm, it is slightly smaller.
When they first posted it, the sizes were labeled in centimeters though they were apparently in milimeters. I just checked again, and it seems someone tried to fix it, and now instead of 210 cm by 50 cm by 95 cm, it's now 2.1 cm by 5 cm by 9.5 cm.

I'm sure they'll get it right eventually.

At least the bridge is the right shape!
 True.

They still can't seem to get the front of the nacelles right, though, the aztecking and grid lines are way too over-exaggerated for that scale. I really don't get it. Next to the TOS Connie and the iconic ANH Star Wars ships, it's one of the most well-documented science fiction vehicles in history.

In fairness it is also infamously the most complex paint job in history!

There's only so much detail you can fit into a mass-market die-cast model at that scale. The tampo printing looks pretty good to me - better than the equivalent Eaglemoss model.

Ima be picky….the bridge module, deflector, torpedo launcher and front caps of the nacelles still look off.

I would suspect the issues with the nacelles and deflector dish are a byproduct of using colored/clear plastic instead of just painting it the correct colors.

The rest looks fine, I don’t mind the exaggerated aztecking but the sculpting issues are a major turnoff.

Andrew Probert had a habit of designing ships that couldn't easily be reproduced. Both of his Enterprises subsequent versions had issues, nobody ever got the Type 7 shuttle right, even the Romulan Warbird was shaped slightly differently in later reproductions.

I love my TOS Corgi, but I think it was $30. I don’t £65 like this one.

How's Corgi's quality compared to EagleMoss & it's sucessor?

His original concept rendering for the Type-7 Shuttle was "Gorgeous".

The final design that came out looked like a "Bloated Fish" in comparison to what Andrew Probert came up with.

I don't have any of the Corgi models, but from what I understand they are mainly die cast metal, whereas Eaglemoss/Fanhome use a lot of plastic. Corgi seem to be plastic mainly for the transparent parts. But I may be wrong.

They have also announced the Enterprise-E for 2026.

Brief video here, Enterprise from 3:26.
