What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

That fans are taking a throwaway gag from one cancelled, finished show as some kind of serious de-canonization of another cancelled, finished show is everything that is wrong with Star Trek fandom.
Wait. They're ALL cancelled, finished shows now! Strange New Worlds is the only show we can take seriously anymore!

Stop being threatened by a black lady having more authority than you'd ever have in the fictitious Trek world for just a minute.
If Michael had only been male (and straight!) then we would have all LOVED the Disco Klingons!
(Color is not an issue because who doesn't love The Sisko?)

(I was fine with the look of the "new" Klingons and there was a glimmer of hope that we would get the John Ford Klingons at last! Ah, well.)

It might not be an issue here. At least I'd like to think so. But outside of this place? Out in the YouTube/Twitter/Facebook world? It's absolutely an issue with some fans. They don't even hide it. There is absolutely a loud minority of fans who take issue with Michael being a woman of colour. You don't have to dig too deep to see comments about DEI and wokeism.

All most Star Trek has to do to be good is to get old. Sometimes it takes longer (Enterprise) sometimes shorter (Voyager). Sometimes it's instant (Strange New Worlds.)

After the next "WHAT ARE THEY DOING TO STAR TREK?" you will be reading "They don't understand Star Trek like Discovery did!"

These are the people who will bang their high chair with whatever spoons they can reach. And then tell you that Michelle Yeoh is awesome.

I imagine a "Network Linked" group of Datas could be hacked, and turned into walking terrorists aboard every ship where a Data clone is serving.
It's no different when a human gets possessed in Star Trek, there has been countless episodes where a human gets possessed and made to do thing against their will.

That was already a threat with heavily Networked anything in the PC space.

Same with "The Synth" & "The Borg".

It's all about how you architecture your Network & what permissions are accessible and how it spreads.

That hasn't stopped us from using Networked computers, it just requires more competent Network Administration & Architectures.

Also, superior defenses against Data being hacked and giving permissions / instructions that would results in harm.

It's not a new thing.

Same with a Terrorist stealing a StarShip and using it for their own purposes.

How many times have we seen a Terrorist or Bad Guy try to steal a StarShip or Shuttle or any other vehicle?

Stop wanking over your technical manuals and starship design evolution blueprints for one second. Stop being threatened by a black lady having more authority than you'd ever have in the fictitious Trek world for just a minute. See how embarrassing you're being, and stop. Yes Discovery was a bit shit sometimes, but it's as canon as The Original Series and Deep Space Nine.
Per Mike MacMahan, that moment is open to interpretation. When asked about it, he did NOT shut down any interpretations of it, and said that people are free to make of it what they like while also winking about it knowing exactly what it may mean.

"Listen, I'm not gonna tell the fans how to respond to anything ... Was I being a little stinker with that moment and knowing what I was doing? Yeah. I’m not dumb ... You can take that moment however you want, and talk to me about it in ten years [smiles].

Have you met fandom?
Yeah, I've been a part of it for quite a while.

But given the response we saw with the DISCO Klingons.

I would've rather dealt with (Why didn't you use "The Klingons") instead of the entire mess that became with (Why do the DISCO Klingons look so strange)?

And it doesn't help that DISCO & SNW changed them back after the fact due to fan complaints.

So at that point, wouldn't it have been easier to just make a new species or a "Off-shoot Species"?

And let that be the end of it?

If they were a new species that weren't the Klingons, everybody would've been ok with it.
People would've been asking 'if these guys were so important why haven't we ever heard of them?' and questioning their use of cloaking devices before Balance of Terror. I know, because that's what Enterprise did with the Xindi and the Suliban.

But that worked out way better in the long run than Disco's Klingons, so I would've been okay with it.

This is Star Trek fandom. There is never “the end of it.”
