Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

When I was re-watching Picard S2 a few weeks back, I remember watching the big reveal of the Stargazer and I couldn't remember if she was the Stargazer A or Stargazer B. Then as the saucer section swooped by, I realized she was neither - She was just the Stargazer with an 8 tacked on to the front of the registry.

In a Universe of Enterprises A through J, Voyagers A through B, etc, it does make me wonder why they went this route instead of the more expected route of adding a letter to the registry. Not that it's a big deal, but it does seem a little.....off.
That seems to have thrown a lot of people off, but the Enterprise was supposed to be a special case: the only ship to keep its original number. Voyager seems to be the second line of ships to receive the honour, with Voyager-A launching 98 years after the Enterprise-A, and then we got a Titan-A 17 years later. And that's it, that's all of them until Discovery as far as I can remember. Well, except for the Defiant, but that kept its number without getting a letter, which is even more unusual.

I refuse to accept that the TiA and EnG was the only ship of the class. In my imaginary continuity, the prototype is the USS Constitution NCC-1700-B. I wonder, if there was a USS Picard, what would be its registry number?
Don't you usually name StarShips with people's names only after they have passed away?

Picard should've been still alive at that point in time.

I think the naval vessels named after Bush ‘41 and John McCain went into service while their namesakes were still alive. Pretty sure there may be others.

The US Navy had a moratorium on naming ships after living people for a long time, that went by the wayside in the 1970s (I think), now there are dozens named after living people, but I could see where the average person (or TV writer) still thinks the former might be the case. With regard to Star Trek, I don't think either convention has ever been established, particularly since the ones named after real people tend to use historical figures that are centuries old.

Just a heads up to those buying from Fanhome, they send out their "shipping" notices at least a month before the package is really picked up by their shipping partner (whoever that may be). After that it takes a week just to get to the USPS. You're charged a month before anything actually starts the shipping journey. I'm doing one of their build-up models and that has been their modus operandi for the last 6 months or so.

Eaglemoss did that exact same thing in the beginning too, as did Fabbri when I was on their Official Fact Files subscription.

The businesses in the UK don’t seem to realize that such vast charging-vs-shipping time deficits can be construed as credit card fraud in the US. Once they opened up administrative offices and shipping warehouses in the States, the orders weren’t charged until they were actually ready to ship. Not sure if it’s a legal thing or simply a cultural thing. In any case, yes, if FH is doing it this way, I would consider this normal behavior from UK business practices. They probably don’t even know this freaks us out.

for me at least, the way they handled The Titan went the same way it went for Stargazer up to a point.

I got the initial “we are getting you package ready” notice and my card was charged. Then about 10 days or so later I received the “your package has shipped, track it here” email.

The difference is Titan moved fast. I had it 5 days after it shipped. Stargazer has been stuck in KC for over a week now. I even reached out to customer service. And while they were better than Eaglemoss, the best they could do was apologize for the delay, assure me the package had left their warehouse, give me the tracking number again and tell me it could take up to 14 business days but they were experiencing delays.

I guess we’ll see around the 26th/27th.

Not arriving in time for Christmas, then. :(
thankfully it’s just for me. If it were a gift for someone, I’d have been way more livid at the delay.

The shipping paths always fascinate me. Started in Missouri, then it landed in Illinois and now it’s in Texas. At least they have it going in the right direction now.

Finally found some time over the holidays to rearrange and convert my collection of Eaglemoss models. Bought an additional bookshelf to finally be able to store all the boxes properly. As you can see, it’s a tight squeeze (and frankly, the way it looks makes me feel like I’m living in some sort of retail shop or warehouse

), but after some trial and error I was able to get all 220+ boxes in there. Finally all those hours playing Tetris paid off.

I’m keeping the vast majority of them stored at all times, but always have a changing assortment of models out on display in the bookshelf. Sometimes I don’t get to change them for a couple of months, but when I do it’s a lot of fun deciding which one to take out and study again. (Note: The bisexual lighting is only to make these photos look nicer; I don’t usually have the living room lit like that.

I’m always curious how others are displaying and storing their collection. Have most of you all of the models out at the same time? Did you keep the boxes or throw them away like some did? Did you already sell some of your models or do you still have all of them?

Any thoughts on FanHome's quality vs EagleMoss?

Cause I wasn't particularly impressed by EagleMoss' QC or model detail on the smaller StarShip lines.

Great looking display.

I don’t have any pics but I have mine set up all in different spots and groups around my “man cave”. Like on one shelf I have all the Enterprises (minus the Discoprise, E-J and the JJprise) or on another I have the Lower Decks stuff. The only box I kept was for the Ringship Enterprise. It’s possibly the most fragile of all the ships, so for storage or moving purposes, best to keep it.

USPS finally scheduled my Stargazer for delivery on Monday, the ordeal is almost over. lol.

I love how you set up your lighting to highlight the blue and red transparent areas. Beautiful and impressive.

~ Still, it's quite a feat of logistics and aesthetics. Some great organisational skills there, Michael!

I'm happy to see the Cerritos out on display (and the Nog). Was that a deliberate choice to link in with the final season of LDS?
I only have a handful of Eaglemoss ships (all of mine would fit in your lit display shelf) but I'll try and find time for a little dusting later and take a couple of photos for this thread.

Some of us have a package that is still stuck in a temporal anomaly in Kansas City. Hoping it moves before the end of 2024 at least, but I'm guessing that depends on the degree of time dilation from my location on the east coast and Missouri.

On the plus side, I'll have space next to the lower decks ship and Tom Paris plate to squeeze in a few fanhome ships, Stargazer included. :techman:
