That's horrifying.
And you have to love how his reaction to game studios being owned by massive corporations, is for his massive corporation to start it's own game studio and possibly try to buy another one.
He's also made comments about buying MSNBC. Now, while him buying Twitter started out similarly, he also lost a lot of money on that, and he'd probably lose money on both Hasbro and MSNBC, as neither of them are quite healthy at the moment. Though Hasbro's future looks probably better than MSNBC, or network television in general.

I agree. And I believe that is the reason why Musk wants to step in -- so he can change the culture of the game back.
Forgive my ignorance on the matter as I've only seen the show and the movie and never actually played the game, but isn't D&D more popular and mainstream than it's ever been? Why in God's name would he want to go back to how it used to be.
Besides of course him being an egotistical asshole.

Now, without making any sort of assessment about the current state of D&D, which I don't play but very much enjoy Ginny Di's videos about, there is always the danger that when you attempt to open a niche hobby to a wider audience, you end up destroying the very things that made it special in the first place. Remember when they wanted to add boy bands to Enterprise? Or when they made Discovery Dark and Gritty, because that style was popular at the time?
Elon is one of those people who really embraced the Revenge of the Nerds, "they bully us because we're better than them" outlook. Time has passed him by (and, frankly, even in the day, he would've been a third-rate participant who wouldn't read the room and would monopolize the conversation with his insipid comments, who would've been driven out of any of the nerd-driven spaces he covets or had them wither around him as everyone one else left so they wouldn't have to put up with him).
D&D being mainstream and inclusive to people who aren't like him, and being played even by stereotypical jocks damages his outlook that people didn't like him because he's a nerd, and not because he's a jerk.
I too would like to hear more about this, and specifically how it might be damaging anyone else's fun, since in my experience with TTRPGs the prime directive is that if you don't like a rule, you should feel free to ignore it.

D&D is very social now. The main virtual table tops system openly advertise themselves as "safe spaces"--which means if you are making anti-gay/trans comments or racist jokes--or even making fun of the other players you're booted. The gamerooms in my town are all very similar. They're a safe spot where non-binary teens and young adults can hang out and have fun. Also, the rules themselves are written with a little more sensitive language and provide opportunities for a range of characters. I'm guessing that Musk is going to do to the virtual table top rooms what he did to Twitter and he's going to republish books that aren't written with all colors and genders in mind.
I should cite my source regarding the latest edition as the most recent edition I've read it 3.5. My statements about the writing and text in the more recent books comes from conversations with High School students who play it.
