It's not like other producers are knocking down her door.
We don't know that.
That she turned it down in spite of the obvious advantages certainly points to the fact that the idea was less than stellar. I don't think she should just take whatever Trek gig turns up regardless of quality if she doesn't want to.
Right. It's a sad state of affairs when Trek fans are expecting Ryan to eat shit just get by. She deserves more credit.

Just the apparent fact that they offered her in a role in something that isn't "Legacy" tells me that the odds of The Terry Matalas Show actually happening are slim. Sounds like she's holding on for something that's never happening.

Based on the two pitches we know about, I have no doubt that the studio want a Picard sequel as quickly as possible, and that doesn't work out well with Matalas's project with Feige(and other things).

What I really don't want is something rushed and there to fill a gap. More endless arguments about what could have been will just be the end result.

They do? It looks more like the studio wants to focus on SNW and SFA. And again I will ask, if they already have a show about a crew on an Enterprise seeking out strange new worlds, why would they need another show about a crew on an Enterprise seeking out strange new worlds?

We're two and a half months away from the two year anniversary of Picard season 3 starting to air.

Unlike SNW, there's been no whispers from behind the scenes that something was coming. I mean, the very fact they built the Bridge of the Enterprise in Toronto, was enough to tell you something was in the works. Plus, there was a genuine feeling of enthusiasm that you could feel brewing.

Legacy has none of that. Infact, there seem to have been actual pitches made that would totally negate the need for Legacy, if Jeri Ryan is to be believed.

Combine that with The God King Terry filling his slate with multiple projects with other studios. Projects that will take years.

I think the writing is on the wall.

If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. I'll gladly admit it and watch whatever is produced, as always.

Every show and movie they've made since the end of Deep Space Nine has been about people on a spaceship doing stuff. If the name 'Enterprise' is the only thing stopping them from making a show called Legacy I'm sure they'll find a way to resolve that problem.

But the name of the ship is only an incidental issue. Unless there is a significant fundamental difference between two ship-bound shows, I don't see the point in producing two shows back-to-back that are essentially the same show. TNG was basically just TOS a hundred years later, but it was a success because everyone wanted Star Trek back on TV at that time. But once things like VOY and ENT started having diminishing returns precisely because they were still using the same formula, that's when the realization hit that you can't just keep doing the same thing over and over again.

No one's expecting her to "eat shit just to get by." But turning down a lead role in an established franchise where she'd be reprising a fan favorite character isn't exactly the best decision out there, IMO of course.
I don't know.

Has she  really had no other offers from any other tv producers?
According to IMDB, her only work since Picard ended is a recurring role on Dark Winds and a voice role in an animated movie. I doubt those paid as much as this hypothetical Trek project which she would have been the lead on would have.

If people only wanted the Strange New Worlds formula then they wouldn't be so keen to get another spaceship show into production, they'd just watch Strange New Worlds.

I get the impression the people hoping for Legacy to get made want it to be a very different series. Different tone, different characters, different setting, with all the new storytelling avenues that open up because of that. Voyager and Enterprise's problem was that they didn't take full advantage of their premise and ended up returning to familiar plots due to a lack of ideas. Meanwhile Stargate SG-1 was doing the episodic 'strange new worlds' concept successfully enough to get two spin-offs. With spaceships.

How would Legacy be different from SNW, formula-wise?

I have no idea what Legacy would be about, though presumably if Seven's involved then it could feature stories about the Fenris Rangers, Janeway, Naomi Wildman, and the aftermath of the Borg's eradication, among other things. Like how Strange New Worlds has stories about Pike's future knowledge, Spock dealing with love, and M'Benga trying to save his daughter, and you wouldn't see any of them in Legacy.

TOS and TNG have the same premise on paper, but their Klingon episodes couldn't be more different, due to the time jump and the presence of Worf in the main cast. Now that the Romulan Empire has collapsed Legacy can stick a Romulan on the crew and explore that situation some more, or a Cardassian, or a Kazon. Strange New Worlds can't do any of this, just like Legacy can't do a story about veterans of Disco's Klingon War.
