Law & Order General Discussion Thread

Just started to watch some of the "newer" episodes. I don't know what to think of Muncy.

And I´m not sure if I should buy Organized Crime on Amazon Prime Video. Any recommendations?

All four seasons of OC are on Peacock if you want to do a short-term subscription. If you've had Comcast internet or cable for some period of time, Peacock (with ads) is a free reward. It used to be free for all, but then they changed it to a reward so only longtime subscribers can get it for free.

Speaking of OC, Olivia Thirlby has joined season 5 in an undisclosed recurring rolw.

Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio joins OC as someone from Stabler’s past, not her Criminal Intent character.

Olivia turned down Elliot at some point.....I don't know if this is addressed later on somehow. If so, I don't want to now about. I'm biding my time until the next season is released in Germany.
And, never thought that I would say it loud: I miss Amanda. On the other hand - her sister can stay well off the lawn.

Can't say I'm surprised at the way that last SVU episode turned out.

I don't blame Carisi one bit for turning on that robber "Deontae". The guy kept whinng about how Carisi "lied" to him? Well, the guy fucking DESERVED it! He took part in a robbery in which a woman was raped and the bodega owner killed. The sonofabitch deserves whatever's coming to him. He's as guilty of rape and murder as "Boyd" is.

And now that Boyd is dead, "D" gets to take all the fall. He gets to go down alone. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

And about the very last scene:

Carisi is seen going up to a woman's apartment and handing her a bunch of flowers. Who is this person he's giving the flowers to?

John Shiban has exited OC midway through production, the sixth showrunner to leave in the show's five seasons. Matt Olmstead, the original OC showrunner and current FBI: International showrunner, is helping out in the meantime.

I'm bummed by it tbh. The show finally had some stability. Not sure of what to think of Olmstead.

The woman was his paralegal that he went to buy the flowers for in the first place.

I watched the first 10 episodes of SVU season 23 after skipping a couple of years and it's so awful. I can't stop watching and now I need to check out the other 50 episodes I've missed.

Dick Wolf's newest cop show "On Call" is out on Amazon today, the whole season. Troian Bellisario stars. The Bellisario-Wolf merger has begun.

Something's really bugging me about that last episode of the mothership.

The undercover cop refuses to cooperate with Riley and Shaw because she thinks it would serve the black community to let Lyman Ross walk for the murder of that media mogul. How the HELL does this work?

What community, black or otherwise, is served by letting a murderer go free? I don't fucking CARE who the victim was, murder is still murder!

And where the hell does she get off, blaming Shaw for most likely torpedoing her own career? He told the truth, she didn't.

Also...if that mogul guy had the champagne bottle in his hand when he left the party (as we see he did), then why doesn't he have it when he gets killed? He followed the undercover cop out of the party, didn't he?

SVU is just so bland. It's so paint by numbers that it's laughable. I miss when the characters were three dimensional and didn't make me want to scream. There's been so much St Olivia lately, that it makes me want to punch a pillow. I'm just laughing at the show now for what it's worth.

Jason Patric joins OC as a detective.

I remember when he was supposed to be the next big thing but he chose to pursue interesting roles in small movies instead of blockbusters, and for a time dating Julia Roberts was the biggest thing he was known for. Then he tried the blockbuster and it didn't work out (Speed 2), offers stopped coming, he did TV and it didn't work out (Wayward Pines), and now he has to do a lot of forgettable DTV garbage because he's been forgotten and the mid-budget movie is no more.

I think its all about pushing a "black vs. blue" mentality for Shaw, like they did for Hondo over on SWAT.

I wonder if its in Mariska's contract that Benson must always be right.

They pretty much neutered Jamie Gray Hyder's character before she left and then did the same to Velasco. Both were undercover officers with edge that they suddenly lost.

They gave Velasco a back story about being in a gang or something and Benson comes down on him sanctimoniously, saying either he has to go arrest his friend (I think) or she'll ruin his career.

The writers introduce Muncy and give her all this vulnerability and then cut her after half of a season.

Churlish brings in conflict with Velasco for a handful of episodes and then she's gone.

Bruno has this whole background of suing the NYPD and being rich, but that has been shuffled to the side, even though he was put in the opening credits.

Curry just decides to hang around SVU as a detective even though she is a Captain and shows up sparingly.

And finally, Silva was introduced this year and she has had next to zero character development as well.

Oh and Rollins is now Benson's best friend after her own edges were shaved completely off.

I understand Mariska is making the big bucks, but why do we keep rotating through the same bland characters? If you need to keep giving Mariska the lion's share of the story, cut it back to her and two detectives or something and develop those characters.

Both eps were pretty good tonight.

L & O - Liked how the bad guy was a mystery. Along with the build up and how the case was handled. 7/10

SVU - It was nice seeing the characters not being that robotic this week. The case was a bit 1.0 like. 7/10

I'm still holding out hope (against hope) that some kind of deal can be worked out so Law & Order: Toronto can be broadcast in the US.

Hey, a man can dream.
