Fallout: The Television Series

Your "genuine criticism" comes off as hate. Or at least an extreme dislike. Sure, if you don't like the show, you don't like the show, fine. But harping on about the realism of the post apocalyptic world and the 1950s aesthetic and now going off about the promotional posters to the degree you have. Like I said, it looks like you're going out of your way to find something to complain about.

Not my intention, but you're free to read my posts how you like, I guess.
Or at least an extreme dislike.
More like extreme disappointment.

I am not complaining. I am criticizing. These are not the same thing. Why do you object so much to me offering genuine criticism of a show I wanted to like and genuinely tried? I gave it two full episodes.

Po-tay-to, po-tah-to.

I have no objection to genuine criticism. Repeating your criticism multiple times after your point was made is what I was objecting to.
Complaint: expression of grief, pain, or dissatisfaction.
Criticism: the art of evaluating or analyzing works of art or literature.
These are not the same thing.

Me criticizing the show is on topic. You complaining about me doing so, not so much.

The criticism comes across as in bad faith because it didn't approach the show as presented. The assumption was a hardcore, ultra-realistic, 2020s approach to post-apocalyptic tale.

Fallout isn't that. It is presented in a much different feel as per that franchise's history. It's not meant to be super realistic because it works from the 50s era understanding, and a atom-punk styling. It's meant to evoke a different era.

All of those things are not things that are stated to be noninterest. Which is fine, but it's hard a fair criticism when the presentation of the criticism is not accounting for deliberate art choices.

I don't play video games, so I don't care about the franchise. I'm just approaching it as a TV show and critiquing as such.

But ignoring the framework. It's not a 2020s show. It's not a video game, it's not a cartoon, it's not a parody. It evokes a specific reference material of an alternate history.

Based on your expectations it's not for you, but it's also demanding it fit in to a specific mold without acknowledging context or intent.

It absolutely is a 2020's show. It's November 14th, 2024. The show premiered on April 10th, 2024.
I know it's not a video game, but it has that visual style.
I know it's not a cartoon, but it still looks cartoony.
I know it's not a parody, but it still looks like one.

This misses the point. Completely.

And so does this. Context is key. And ignoring the context is what creates frustration and struggle. Ignoring the presentation of alternate history, ongoing Cold War tensions with the USSR, then China, resulting in a much different cultural push than current 2020s, a much different cultural expression.

It's like For All Mankind. It's not our future.

#2 Cartoony, comedy, bright-and-colorful, comic book / video game.
The one with a damaged helmet sitting on a beach with a dilapidated Ferris wheel and rollercoaster in the background? The one with metallic grays and pastel golds and blues as the color pallet?

Cartoony is a pretty wide spectrum from simiple stick drawing to complex 3D rendering.

I'm not ignoring context. I'm aware it's alternate history, but I'm saying I don't care, because I don't like the concept. For All Mankind, what is that?

It's irrelevant if you don't like it. One cannot critique art without acknowledging its context.

For All Mankind is a sci-fi TV show about alternate history space program.

The design of the helmet itself is what's cartoon. It's a silver storm trooper helmet with things glued on.

Can you provide an example? The only 50's sci-fi I can think of is The War of the Worlds and When Worlds Collide.
Well if you want limit things to movies.

Ah, that famous cartoon "Star Wars".

Trying doing an image search for "gasmasks" or "hazmat gear" Or the tac and hazmat gear worn by police and fire.

I picked two movies, because that's the only sci-fi from the 1950's that I can think of. The only 50's show I can think of is I Love Lucy. I grew up with 80's & 90's sci-fi. :)

At least Star Wars knew it was a goofy family movie.
