Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

Same as in the UK. I think we are judged because of brexit but 48% of the vote then was to remain.

There is still a lot Ill feeling in the UK around it, as I'm sure the same applies over there.

Brexit was a poorly conceived and executed plan to awkwardly exit an economic club that Britain was out of synch and not fully onboard with to begin with - the US electorate just voted in an actively bad/repulsive man who's the figurehead of a very reactionary, cult like political movement that wants to completely subvert and replace a nuclear armed superstate.

Just saw my first Christmas commercial, a Home Depot ad featuring all the Christmas decorations you can get there.

Christ, it's only November 6th.

One of our local radio stations started advertising "Your Christmas Station" on November 1st and has added Christmas songs to their rotation.
They actually might clean up ratings wise as two of their competitors flipped formats earlier this year.

Hallmark christmas movies started 2 weeks ago.
And will go on until January 2nd, which really pisses my mom and I have because we watch some of the regular stuff on there, and it means we suddenly have to find new stuff to watch for these months.
And I discovered something, as part of my UTI treatment my doctor recommended I drink pure 100% cranberry juice. So I've been drinking it all week, and it's actually kind of gross. I love a lot of the juices where it's mixed other juices, and now I can see why they do that.

I don't listen to podcasts in "podcast format," but when they put them on YouTube I'll sometimes watch. Is it just me or are a lot of celebrity entertainer podcast hosts just woefully unprepared to interview their subject? I've brought up Dominic Keating and Connor Trinneer before, but Michael Biehn is another one I recently discovered and it doesn't seem like he does any prep either. Michael Rosenbaum is one of the better ones but you can tell there are a lot of things he doesn't know about his guests too.

Anyone got a gif of Obi-wan referring to the dark times? Because it feels like that’s where the world is at right now.
Nah, it feels more like an Ewok dance party!

Yesterday I went to do a volunteer at a BBQ for Sydney Children's Hospital at a Bunnings in Penrith. Turns out I got the date wrong and it was for last saturday. There's even two Bunnings in Penrith and I drove to both just to be sure! I wasn't angry but more like "##$#$ OF COURSE THIS HAPPENED!"

Having bought 17 books in the Eaglemoss Graphic Novel collection, I need to shelve them.

There isn't sufficient space on the shelf where my existing 6 of the collection reside. The obvious place for all the (few) ST graphics novels I own is the bottom shelf of the other ST bookcase. Done (and the shelf got dusted!)

This displaces my (very small) collection of Star Wars and and Doctor Who books. The logical place for them to go is in the neighbouring bookcase that has other science fiction in it. Unfortunately, the bookcase also houses "adult fiction M to Trollope" and is already double shelved. So I would have to move the books on 4 shelves to make space. This displaces the books on the bottom shelf. Where will they go? Obviously onto the next bookcase (currently Trollope to Z) but that's also full and double shelved... So now I have to move the dictionaries and reference works on the NEXT bookcase... And that leaves me with a shelf of books with nowhere to go...

I have reached the point where the options seem to be a) move to a bigger house b) purge my books.c) pretend that I have infinite bookshelves and simply keep moving books onto the next shelf in a never-ending loop...

And that leaves me with a shelf of books with nowhere to go...

The struggle is real. I need to get more shelves, but even the cheap ones are so much more expensive than they were even five years ago. And then comes the small problem of where I would even put it, if I did get one?

Fortunately, for most fiction, I’ve switched to ebooks, which helps a lot. But I still prefer to have a physical version for anything Star Trek-related.

Why doesn't anybody post in the "Your annual vacation/holidays" thread anymore? Does no one around here even TAKE vacations anymore? I feel guilty that I'm the only one who posts in it! :scream:

Maybe peole can't afford vacations anymore. I stayed at home this summer.
You don't have to go very far to take a vacation. Hell, when the pandemic hit, I went to a lot of baseball games in Kansas City. An easy three-hour drive, and not too terribly expensive.

Fun fact: The TV show Corner Gas invented the word "staycation".

I don't want to travel alone because I would just stay inside and do nothing. Plus I already had my annual holiday, I could go during the holidays again but I don't feel like it

I took staycations before they were cool. (Well, OK, I guess they’re probably still not cool.)

I’m an introvert, I don’t like crowds of people (which tourist destinations tend to attract), I can enjoy being in a new place but I hate the process of getting to a new place, and perhaps most importantly, travel is freakishly expensive, and I can’t really afford it, and honestly, even for less expensive trips, I’d rather spend my limited funds on other things.

I still take vacation from work, but it’s generally a time to shut out the world and recharge. I enjoy it, but “stayed home and engaged in activities introverts enjoy” doesn’t really fit the intention of the thread, so I don’t post there.
