Woke regarding film/TV: is it a big deal?

So, anyone seen any good TV shows lately?
Just rewatching Night Court from the 80s. I would not call it woke, and find the term stupid. As a pejorative, it makes as much sense as criticizing a puppet for looking put together. Night Court is one of those shows that both made fun of ridiculous behavior, and acknowledge all kinds of points of view.

I'm rather ok with that. I think the people complaining about LGBT in their shows are just looking to be offended and need a reason to gripe, rather than just accepting not every show is for them and moving on. It's like one friend of mine described it with the struggles with puppeteering in a movie: "The producers would come in and look at the puppet we made and would feel the need to say something, even though they knew nothing about what made the puppet look more or less like the wanted it. So, we got feedback to brighten up the eyes."

Sometimes people just feel like they have to say something, when the more reasonable course may be to say nothing.

Unrelated, wife has been watching Outlander which I find very strange.

#1 Healthcare is not a right, it is a paid-for service. However, one does have the right to be seen in an ER, legally, they cannot be refused.

#2 You're not asking me about healthcare. You're asking me about abortion. Don't be a cowardly chickenshit and just say the word.

#3 If X state has declared abortion to be illegal, the mother will need to drive to another state to murder her baby where said murder is legal.

#4 If the baby needs to be delivered or removed early vaginally or surgically, this is not an abortion, and she can simply go to her local hospital.
Abortion IS healthcare.

Blue Bloods started up again. Unfortunately this is their final season. :wah:
I finally watched all of the original Prisoner series a couple months ago when Imprint’s box set came out. Absolutely marvelous.
I actually liked the 2009 remake. *hides*

Oh, and dammit, I'm pissed that we have to wait till '25 for the new season of NCIS: Sydney.

#1 Denying rights to someone for being gay. Tell me, where is that happening in the USA today? Just one example, please.

#2 I stand against abortion, which is the unnecessary killing of the baby for being inconvenient. If the pregnancy endangers the mother, no one's going to argue for her to continue if she does not want to. Even if she wanted to, people might argue for her to prematurely deliver. There is nothing to gain from losing mother and baby, but there is always the possibility the baby may survive, and if not, she can try again.

#3 Why are you so threatened by American freedom, the right to live your life as you please?
You gotta be fucking with me.

30 seconds with your favourite search engine will give you umpteen examples of discrimination against members of the LGBTQ+ community codiefied into law by republicans.

but I'll give you a hint with two words.
"bathroom bans" "parental rights"

and what about when the pregnancy endangers the life of the mother or the baby has a condition that will result in a very short and painful life?

It's a pity that the support for the child before it's born doesn't extend to after it's born.

But hey it's really about the control isn't it? The power kick that comes from controlling what the woman can do with her body but men who don't have to endure the pregnancy and who were also involved in the creation process.

finally who said I said I was threatened?

I was merely pointing out the rank hypocrisy of people like you have claim to be for freedom but only when it's on your terms and have no issue with taking it away from others.

still want to know the fuck they were smoking with the final episode.

I watched the find episode of the Prison after watching End of Evangelion so it was s double mindfuck weekend.

The mere fact that a Governor signed a law permitting the installation of a tampon dispenser in a school restroom and half the so-called "family values" and "religious" voters in America think it's perverted and evil is just more proof that even basic daily hygiene for teenagers or preteens is something to clutch one's pearls over because some politician or clergy member told them it's "wrong."

Rights are being threatened every day, and sadly enough threats have been successful that it puts the lie to the idea that it's about "freedom."

#1 Can you provide one example? You staked the claim, back it up.
#2 Parents do have rights, kids belong to their family, not the state.
#3 What bathroom bans? Be specific.
#4 If the mother's life is in jeopardy, the baby can be delivered early vaginally or surgically. This is not an abortion.
#5 Shall we go around murdering everyone who is about to die a horrible death in the name of "so they do not suffer?"
#6 The mother is responsible for her baby before and after birth. If she does not want to be a mother, she can surrender her baby to an adoption agency or to the state. There are programs for this.
#7 When a woman is pregnant, two lives are at stake, not one. Why do you not advocate for the right to life of the unborn?
#8 Men are still responsible for the baby they father either by choice or by child support. Did you forget?

Why are people so threatened by people who value the lives of unborn babies?
